Driving on a Blown engine?
So heres the deal, I live in southern Maine, and am currently on vacation about 2 hour drive from home. I drove my RX7 here, and now it has magically blown the front rotor. The rear rotor is fine, 3 even puffs of air out of the spark plug holes. But on the Front rotor there is only one puff, and 2 misses.
So my question is; can I, or should I, drive the car the 2 hours home, or should I find a way to tow the thing home?
I rebuilt the engine pretty recently, the engine has less than 2k miles on the rebuild. It is a 1987 Turbo 2.

I had an fb that blew a rear apex seal and drove it for a few weeks before I was able to find a used motor to throw in it. It was very hard to drive in town and took forever to get up to speed. It puts a lot of stress on the clutch and if you want to rebuild that engine you don't want to do anymore damage to the housings or rotor than is already done. It also wastes a ton of gas blown right out the exhaust. Basically it can be done but I wouldn't recommend it.

Harbor freight has triangular tow hitch that'll hook up front on a 2nd gen. Uhaul has tow Dolly’s. Get a SUV from Enterprise w a tow receiver for the day for either option. Prob looking at around 2-300 doing it yourself that way.
Or check out triple A & if it seems it’ll cover it wait a few days and get it towed home.
Just thinking out loud to try to try to help.
Edit: ha haven’t used the phone feature EVER seems I brought up an 11 year old post. 🤣

You could probably do it,
but may risk damaging the other rotor. With 1 rotor not working the ecu wont be able to calculate load properly and u may risk running lean and detonating on the other rotor under heavy load.
That being said I've drove several blown engines from 1-3 hours before and made it.
If the cat has a cat all the unburned fuel from the blown rotor may overheat it and I ran into the floor smoking and had to stop on one car (Cat glowing red hot), was lucky it didn't start a fire. So if u have one I'd be weary.
Dang I was tricked too! Old post lol
