is it badf to drive a car with "one blown rotor"?

i mean, will the apex seals be chewing up the housing with every revolution?

IE... if i buy a car with said problem, will i be able to drive it home , or will i have to have it towed?

You'd want to get it towed.

If you have one taht is blown , chances it being able to be started without aid of ATF, is almost NONE! Let alone driving it, once the rotor housings are chewed up, then its over, no compression! No running motor...

I had one motor start up easier right after the rear rotor went than right before it did. It depends on if the good rotor has good compression and what damage the one apex did to the housing and other seals.

The last motor I killed had to limp home about 20 miles, topped out around 50mph, took a looong time to get there, and would sputter and jerk if you gave it more than about a quarter throttle while cruising. So unless the car is very close, I wouldn't plan on driving it home with one rotor down.

ive seen the after effects of a housing and rotor after being driven on. and it wasnt a pretty site..

but when the apex seal broke im sure it has done enuf damage to make the insides unusable.

if its a close drive i say atempt it otherwise its easy to get it to towed.

are u planing on rebuilding it??

i had to drive my old car home about 45 miles at 55mph(topped out) because i had to get the thing home. i already knew the internals were scrapped so i went for it. it smoked like the batmobile or somethin. it was badddddddd
that car never let me down, not even on one rotor

id say if you dotn plan on usin that motor, go for it. if you plan on using any internals of that motor get it towed. also if you arent feelin lucky i wouldnt try it either

I'd say that if you wanted to rebuild the engine, definitely DON'T drive it home.

Hey..how about your break one of your legs and walk about 5 miles and see how it feels.

You're engine won't like it...so tow it or if you really want a work out...maybe you can push it! ;D

this is how it will look afterwords:
btw: this 13B was completely screwed up. No apex left on the rear rotor, front had some compression, but housing was too far gone aswell

i wonder what a single rotary engine with a T-78 would make for power. Maybe using a larger housing and rotor. That would be sweet. The torque would suck though.

They have single-rotor engines for lawnmower tractors.... or so I've heard...

I think that'd be awesome to put in a go-kart

They make those... In Germany there's a Go-Kart that's rotary powered... Can't remember the link though.
BTW my rotor was worse.... Don't have a close up pic, but this is the engine in parts:

yes you can drive with a blown motor!! usally once it blows the damage is done so it dosnt matter!! i know a guy (super broke) that has been driving his 79 rx7 with a blown motor for over 1 year!!!,,,running on 1 rotor of course!!he even disconnected the rear rotots sparkplugs so the car would stop backfiring!! hey, it works!!i would say the only bad thing is he dosnt get anywhere very fast!!!

I've lost compression on two of the three chambers on the rear rotor of my 12a and the only thing I really notice is the noise when open the throttle up. The acceleration is not quite as good but there's snow on the ground so I'm not pushing it anyways. I'll keep running it until I get my other motor rebuilt.
