Well, I think it blew. What to do now?

Hello all.

Today I come before all of you a broken and trampled man. Saturday night my dear baby parted from me. I was traveling home Saturday night, could see my house when it happened. My car shook violetly, I though for a minute that I had let the cluch out with it in gear becuase that is what it felt like, but alas no, my foot was still on the clutch with it in. I turned my car with me coasting down the hill, and it started fine, for a split second I thought I would be alright but as soon as I gave it gas it started to die on me and started shaking terribley. It died 3 more time before I got home 4 blocks away. Since it was midnight and cold as hell outside there was nothing I could do what wait until the morning. The next day I tried starting it up, not expecting anything, and to my great delight she started fine and idled pretty good (around 1k). Again for a split second I thought that the night before might have had been a fluke, but as soon as I tried to drive her, she again started to die and shake. Today I ran here into the garage and preformed a poor man compression test with my dad using a piston tester. I had a bad feeling that it was the rear rotor, and the test came out 90-95-90 for the front rotor and a horrible 0-0-0 for the rear rotor.

Now a few more facts. My car is a 88 N/A I have owned the car roughly 7 months and it has had no major problems before. It would ilde fine at 750 once it was warm. It did flood on me once about a month back. I did have bad gas millage, roughly 9-12MPG. When I tested the from rotor the rear rotor did not make any whoosh or anything, and the rear rotor plug looked as though it had some gas on it, I am pretty sure the front did not.

That is about it. I pretty sure that it is blown but if anyone has any ideas, I am open to sugestons. I dont really know what to do now. I am think of a rebuild but frankly dont have much money right now. How much would a rebuilt cost me(including everything). Otherwise I am going to have to part with my baby forever.

Thanks For reading such a long post

~Anthony

Hey Hypntyz7, I will would like to get in contact with you. Streetporting sounds nice, but I got make sure I can afford it all first. Having it blow on me pretty soon after I got really sucks. I'll try to e-mail you when I get home later today.

Thanks everyone

Ive been on this forum for 3 years or so, and Ive been doing engines for about 1.5 of those now, so I was here. Many times others/prior customers throw my name out there when people post about blown engines and such, and often I do it myself, so I gess you just got unlucky...

Do you abuse it a lot? It seems weird that the rear rotor would be 0. At least one side should have something, since blowing to apex seals at the same time is pretty unlikely.
Sure it might not just be flooding badly on that rotor? The gas can dissolve the oil film, leaving you with no compression.

One seal can blow and either take out the remaining seals or damage the housing bad enough to not get compression.

I'd recommend Kevin for a rebuild

Sucks to hear. Im beginning to suspect the oil seals on my engine also seem to be giving way...............

No, I did not abuse it at all. I had it flood before so I kinda know what the signs are. Could only one rotor be flooded? Also I dont know, but I would not think that it would flood one me while I was driving. I dont know, correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, worked on it a bit today, I am pretty sure the rear rotor is gone and not flooded as someone mentioned. It will idle for me at around 1.5k but if it gets any lower it will quit. Also, I drove it around the block and there is no power at all, which one would expect.

Guess it is really time for a rebuild. I could not think of myself selling her to the graveyard. Even though the rebuild will be as much as I paid for her, ironic isnt it.

Actually its a pretty common thing (the entire rear rotor letting go). Now, having all 6 seals go at once is odd I had gas dripping off my spark plugs and it was still showing 90psi on a compression test. Granted, it wouldnt start but there *was* compression. It doesnt go completely dead.

I also thought that having all 6 seals go was odd. The rear plus did have some fuel on it. I am pretty sure mine doesnt compress at all. When I was testing the front rotor I did not hear anything at all from the rear rotor, did hit me until I tested the rear rotor and the front rotor went, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. It actualy scared the crap out of me the first time because I was not expecting it.
