CA Drilled Slotted/ Slotted / OEM Brake Rotor Review

So as of right now i need to do my brakes. I have a gtu but i have my 4 piston calipers painted and ready to go. So my friend told me to try calling this place 88rotors which is located here in El Monte California. They told me i can either get slotted rotors or drilled slotted. I was wondering if anyone had some feed back on slotted and drilled slotted rotors. From what i have heard power slotted are better. Well i would greatly appreciate your knowledge on this situation.

Thanks - Gabriel

Go buy the standard rotors at NAPA.

The drilled rotors will crack. Each hole creates a stress riser that will break under repeated temperature cycles.

Slotted rotors only take material away from the face of the rotor and therefore should DECREASE the ability to deal with high temperatures.

The reason for slotted or drilled rotors is to evacuate the layer of out-gassed material from the brake pads. On todays brake pads, this outgassing is basically non-existent.

Just get a set of good pads and the stock rotor blanks from NAPA or O'Reilly's or whatever the local parts store is.

The guys running EP and some other race classes run teh standard parts store rotors, so if it is good enough for them, it is good enough for you and me!

All of this is pointless if you want the "cool" look you get from those cut rotors.

Peace!

Rob

I've bought from them. Get the slotted not the drilled and you will be fine.

FWIW, they also have a killer price on plain blanks.

regular rotors are the best. F1 drives don't use that drilled crap.

slotted rotors if you plan to do a few track days/autoX. standard if it's just a street car.

drilled rotors are just for looks and will crack if you overdrive them.

don't listen to the people saying slotted rotors take away from the surface and therefore makes them bad. that is completely false.

drilled rotors were made to help with de-gassing..

slotted rotors are better because they keep the face of the pad clean of debris. you will notice your overall surface on slotted rotors will have less valleys and scratches in them.

so ive decided

so drilled slotted rotors are a no go
and i was reading one of my modified mag's and it had a little article about power slot rotors
and they say so much braking on drilled rotors crack the rotor
on slotted they get get rid of the debris from the pads
and i am pretty sure F1 drivers do use blanks but they are different material

I have the slotted/dimpled ones from cquence, got them because they were cheap and my old ones were running thin.

After a few track days and auto-x's, they're holding up fine. Going back to blanks though as soon as I'm done with these.
