drifting is all about traction. You need good/decent tires to drift. With good technique (some power goes a long way as well) you'll be able to break them loose

drifting can quickly become the new 'rice' so anyone who's trying to get into it needs to be well informed

be prepared to crash a few times and break lots of parts. Unlike drag racing, drifting is 80% driver 20% car . You can throw tons of money building it 'drift spec' but without a good driver its just gonna sit n spin. (yes random figure pulled out of ***)

I agree that if you can't drive for ****, a $10,000 set-up ain't gonna help you drift. But it is also essential that you prep your car properly before you get into drifting. For example, old stock struts and springs probably cannot take the lateral pressure exerted on them when you drift, so replacing them is a must. I have seen some bent ones before, and believe me you wouldn't want your car to be resting on them. Also, LSD is VERY helpful if your FC is not equipped with it. You will also need **** *** tyres in the rear.

I know coz when I tried to drift my open-differential FC with Yokohama AVS's on the rears, the rear end just wouldn't come loose...then I tried it on my friend's S13 with **** tyres and a NISMO LSD and it was easy as cake to unstick the rear.

just slap on a 6kg/mm front springs i think stock one, and slap 8 or 10kg on the back, get konis, softest on the front, hardest at back. Easily oversteer with proper breaking on turn-ins. Many can get the *** out after apex, few can do it far before hittin it

LSD definitely helps...it should be one of the very first mods if anyone is getting into it. Im trying to save up for a Cusco for the FD and a Kaaz for the FC, 1.5's

im not exactly sure what kind of LSD came in some FC's...is it viscous type?

GXLs come with LSD. I believe all 86-88 FCs that have 5 lug wheels come with LSD. I dont know about 89-92 cars tho. Lift the rear end so both tires are off the ground and spin one of them with your hand. If the other wheel spins in the same direction as the one youre moving, you have LSD. If it moves the opposite way, you have an open diff.

Don't upgrade your car all at once to be a "drifter". Drifting is all driver skills so a car with the best suspension wont do you any good if you suck *** at driving. I would get a racing seat and a harness before doing any major suspension upgrades. Not sliding around in your seat HELPS out ALOT and you feel way more confortable doing crazy things.

not just downhills...

When I first wanted to drift i looked up all I could online to find out exactly how it was done. And since it wasn't everyday that it rained (the easiest way to drift), so i would go to this small downhill area where there was a smal amount of gavel on newly paved hardly ever touched roads. This just made it easier to initiate the drift. And of course instead of actually completing an entire drift I would end up just spinning out... (lucky the road is huge, you could problably fit four lanes down it if you had to. So I wasn't in too much danger. Then, last year conviently Big Kmart closed, just down the street from me, so I was hooked up. So I have been fathfully practicing, but far from good. So anyways.. sorry if i made it sound like i wanted to just go nuts on all the steepest slopes I could find hairpins on...

(Just wanted to clarify)
