Dose air pump control anything other than emissions and ports!!

OK, I have searched... I found out alot, but not what I need to know. I have a 88 vert with no cats, and I have removed my 5th and 6th port sleeves. Would removing the air pump do anything to my engine at this point.

From what I have read the airpump does not effect the ports on a s4. Does it do somthing for emissions. I plan on taking off my egr valve as well, so I am not conserned with emissions at this point.

I know this has been covered many times before but I just need a straight answer.

In short: no cats, no sleeves, s4, no concerns about emissions, is airpump needed?

Exhaust back pressure controls the 5/6th ports on a s4. Basically, your air pump is just spinning doing nothing.

That is exactly what I got from my reaseach. I thought that it has to do something. Does anyone else know if the airpump does anything on an s4?

THanks dr0x

It's acting like a idler pulley for your water pump belt right now. That's all. If removed it will cause the water pump belt to slip and cause the temps to go up at high rpm.

At this point remove and insstall a Dual Belt Alternator Pulley to prevent water pump slippage

There is one more small function that it does. When the throttle is let off suddenly, the anti-afterburn valve inside the acv opens and lets fresh air into the intake manifold to prevent backfiring. Not important .

Thanks for the info.

1. Is this dual belt pully a generic item or is there a special place to get it at.

2. Where is this acv you all speak of. What does it look like, so I can take it off.

ACV is on the side of the upper intake. You can buy the block-off plate from www.K2RD.com.

Dual Belt pulley is available at www.rotaryinnovation.com

just a confirmation...all you need is the dual alternator pulley right? And you can run 2 belts off the e-shaft pulley b/c you removed the air pump belt correct? Im gonna oder the rotary innov. one now.
