"True Dual" Exhaust?

I might be buying a header from my brother and i'm guessing that it's for a true dual setup because the pipes dont collect.

1) So is it for a true dual setup?

2) I've heard that only Mazdatrix claims a performace gain. If this is true how much of a gain would be expected?

3) Can I can just run two completely seperate pipes off it (one off each pipe)

4) Would it be a good choice for a daily driver that sees the drag strip on occasion?

Thanks for any input.
Craig

well, i assume you are not a turbo since u aare adding a header. i suggest you check out the mazdatrix site. it is under race parts section. they claim 28% i believe increase over a stock exhaust sytem. i have a dual exhaust system and i love it. sounds awesome, great power, great sound, and if you go no cats you will get nice flames popping from the pipes. if u have a rx in good condition, going with a good aftermarket exhaust like the mazdatriz duals ill probably be the best mod you could get for your car.

You can make one of three types of exhaust with that uncollected header:
1) Short Primary Collected (collects shortly after the header)
2) Long Primary Collected (collects close to the muffler)
3) Uncollected (pipes don't collect, and each runs to a separate muffler)

"True Dual" is slang for an Uncollected exhaust.

See the Mazdatrix site for info on the uncollected exhaust, and see the Racing Beat site in the 1Gen section for the short and long primary exhausts.

So if I ran the third setup you described would it be just as good as the other two? I'm thinking it would be cheaper to go that route, if it's cheaper and just as good as the other two then thats what I will do.

The third setup is the most expensive because it requires two mufflers, while the first two setups only require one muffler. If you use pre-silencers, the first setup is most commonly used with one pre-silencer, while the second and third setups usually use two pre-silencers. So the cost will depend a lot on these components. Here is a breakdown for usual components, although you can do whatever you like with a custom setup.
1) Short Collected Primary = 1 Header, 1 Pre-Silencer, 1 Muffler
2) Long Collected Primary = 1 Header, 2 Pre-Silencers, 1 Muffler
3) Uncollected Primary = 1 Header, 2 Pre-Silencers, 2 Mufflers

Mazdatrix is the only vendor I know of who claims better performance with the third setup, so you should ask them about it.

I have the Mazdatrix true dual setup on my car. Its pricey but it is a top of the line product, so you do get what you pay for. The sound and look of it is terrific. (with the racing beat mufflers)

Thanks guys! I think i'll go with the third setup with Racingbeat mufflers. The videos that i've downloaded sound awesome with the RB mufflers. IMO two mufflers look better on the FC.
