door lock issues

I havent had a chance to take the door apart but when i try to lock the door from the drivers side it doesnt lock. When i go lock it from the passengers side it locks both doors. When i go to unlock it i can not open it from the drivers side, i have to open the drivers door from the inside.

any ideas of what the problem might be?

I can't think how this is possible...the electric lock system is a "follow-me" type, i.e. the driver's side has no actuator at all- it activates the actuator on the passenger side but there is no reverse function.

ok maybe this came across wrong, to lock it from the passenger side i would press the driver side lock thing to lock then close my door and then lock it wiht the key. When i try to open it from the driver side after that, i cant get the door open

Ah, that makes sense.

Any locksmith can rebuild your lock cylinders...I had my two doors and the hatch done for under $50.

????

The factory Mazda power lock (not locks) works as a "follow me" system. To lock both doors, you would push the drivers door interior latch switch down, to the lock position.

The passengers door does not have a switch or controller to control the drivers door.

The only way the driver's door would lock or unlock would be using the latch switch and pushing it too the lock position, or using the key to lock the door.

This would be regardless of if you locked or unlocked the passenger's door as the passengers door latch or key switch do not control anything but the passengers door.

The only ways the passenger's door would lock or unlock would be using the latch switch and pushing it too the lock position, or using the key to lock the door or using the driver's door interior latch switch to lock the driver's door.

Now if you mean key operation in the door, the same key should unlock and lock both doors.
