Thank you so much! That's exactly it. Atkins says that my card won't let me pay right now cause of some security setting, but as soon as that's resolved I can have a working door

Turns out that wasn't the piece I needed to make my door handle work, though that did need replacing. I took apart the other door and it looks like all the same pieces are moving so I'm really stumped. Any guesses?

 

take the door handle off and fit the part to it

 

it's only held in by 2 10mm nuts.

 

I was doing it wrong and trying to put it in backwards, but my door still won't open
The little swing arm doesn't quite move far enough and I can't see why

 

did you push down lightly on the threaded rod before you clamped down this locking tab?

the FC door handle mechanism itself is also prone to failure so that could be another reason if it's snapped at the pivot like usually happens. this is where they usually break, but this repair won't last:
