Door handle doesn't work?

Im having a bit of a problem with the drivers side door handle.

Pulling it from the outside when unlocked doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a linkage in there thats prone to slipping off or breaking?

I have another door handle id prefer to use but the locks are different on each. While im in there, id like to swap the old one out. How difficult is it to replace the locks?

Thanks in advance!

the whole job is 1 hours and it is a pita. you have a broken door handle more than likely.

half a pita... its not that bad

mazda even notched the glass so you can fit a socket wrench in there!

if you have another door handle just take it and a key that fits the original, and a locksmith can rekey the door handle to accept the original key ...

thats what i had to do ...

and yes it CAN be a pain in the *** ... we had to slip my window out of the track and pull it up for complete access, as we just couldnt reach the back nut/bolt

Actually I have done both, replaced the handle and the locks too. Really not too hard, the inner door trim has to come off but that is all, I saw somewhere that somebody mentioned the glass had to come out but that is definitly NOT true, roll the window all of the way up for the back bolt and all of the way down for the front bolt . A little patience is all that is required, I figure that the 2 most dangerous points are not scatching the paint on the door or breaking the sail panel covers near the mirrors!

As for the lock, also a piece of cake to do, you can either use your existing lock in the replacement handle or re-key the one in the replacement handle using the following procedure. Just ask if I have left anything out.

I did it on my friend's 7 and I just put the old lock cylinder in the new handle, it was pretty easy, but there are a couple akward things to get past...

meh too late to edit

IIRC when you roll the window all the way up (not down) the bottom of the glass has a pertty notch in it so you can access the handle mount bolts without removing the glass.
