Sounds like both the warning light cluster and the cPU need to be resoldered. Search the 2nd Gen forum for "resolder*" and you'll get plenty of info.

Dittos all the above. The idiot light cluster should come on when the key is turned to on. There is a relay in the CPU next to your left foot, that should get a signal from the alternator to pull in, which in turn puts 12v on the idiot lights to turn them on. When the alternator starts putting out, the relay relaxes and the lights go out. See that the two wire plug on the back of the alternator is on good.

Also go to http://www.fc3s.org/ and download the 88 fsm and the wiring diagrams. Its a free download.

Cold solder joints on the CPU do cause the horn and idiot lights not to work as they should.

Also, go to this site http://home.rmci.net/panther/ where you will find any number of fixes for your car.

Good point, both problems may be related to the CPU. Resolder the CPU first and see if this fixes the warning lights as well.

Once I plugged that two prong connector back into my alternator, everything started working again

Probably isn't your issue, but JIC..
