Does the RX7 hold up?
This is my first post on these boards, so bear with me
Alright, my friend and I were driving down the road today, and I noticed an RX7 for sale. It's an '86 with about 150,000 miles, for around $1600. I just had a few questions that maybe some more experienced owners could answer:
1.) Would buying a car with 150k miles on it even be worth the investment? Do rotary engines hold up for much longer than 150k, or would I just be buying a new car soon.
2.) Are there any problems that I should be aware of and look for in the car besides the generals? I did test drive it and it seemed more or less fine to both me and my friend.
3.) And third, is the RX7 easily upgradable as far as performance parts go? Are performance parts easy to find/get? Can they be made to go fast without thousands of dollars of investment?
It's just I own a Dodge Intrepid now and I'm so sick of this family car stuff, I want a cool, sporty car. Thanks guys!

Should answer most of your questions.
As far as performance goes, look at what people have done on this forum. If the car is N/A (non-turbo), then don't expect to make it fast. If it is a Turbo II, then it can be made pretty fast fairly easily, but don't expect it to be as reliable as the N/A.

150K is alot of miles for a rotary, mind you they can last longer, but the averagely maintained RX-7 is probably needing a rebuild around 150K.
As far as performance, depends on how crafty you are and what you consider "fast" With intake and exhaust you can probably be seeing mid 15s in the 1/4 mile. Dont plan on going too fast though, because no n/as that I know of has gotten into the 13s and still remain streetable.
