does reverse have synchros?
well, my car now doesnt want to reverse. I searched and some people said that it's because the synchros are messed up.
Well other people also say that the reverse gear doesnt have any synchros.
Anyone know the answer?
Thanks

Missed the 2nd/3rd shift a lot?
Have you missed the 2nd/3rd shift a lot (and gone directly to 5th)? Any issues with 5th gear? The reason I ask is that both 5th and reverse are on the same cluster, and sometimes blowing the 2/3 shift can negatively impact reverse and 5th.

Good
Well, then you have either a bad bearing or a bad gear/bent shaft. Can you get it in reverse at all? Grinding, or no engagement whatsoever? Can you put it in reverse when the car is off, start it, then let out the clutch and still use reverse?
In the end you may need to jerk it and crack the case, but you should at least drain and refill it with MT90 Redline, and check the oil for metal.

Depends...
It will cost you at least 6 hours of time to pull the tranny, crack the box, and load it back in. Then you have the hours associated with finding the problem and repairing it, and that is a total unknown. You can easily pay $1K for tranny rebuilds.
Or, you can buy a used one and take your chances. Then you pay for the used tranny and the pull/reinstall time (unless you do it yourself). The risk is that one could blow after 100 miles, or it could go a 100K miles. You just never know.
I've had to crack mine twice in four years - once for 5th gear synchro, and once to fix the gear that powers the speedo. It cost a bunch, but you really have no choice. I'd love to stockpile a couple of used tranny's.....

To some people, repairing a tranny is just as easy as repairing an engine. For most, removing and replacing the tranny because it is not working or to access the clutch is the extent of their knowledge. They don't bother trying to rebuild it like you would an engine.
Basically, the group you fall into is going to determine how much time and money you spend fixing your tranny or replacing it. Its nothing that can't be learned, but depending on the problem, it may be cheaper to replace the whole thing instead of making repairs. Some repairs require special tools like bearing presses and stuff.
