Does this radiator look bad?

To the guy that I'm buying this from no disrespect or anything.. I just don't want to face another radiator problem.

So anyway I'm buying this KOYO radiator for $200 shipped and in the pictures there are some bent fins. some look worse than others.. I don't have much knowledge about radiators so I figured I'd post the pictures and let some of you more experienced guys tell me what you think.

I the outer ring is just dirt and it inner ring is from an E-Fan. The radiator is going into my s5 vert NA. Anyway Thanks for all the help.

I would get some close-ups of where a fan was rubbing. if a fan was hitting the radiator.....and it sure looks like it was......the tubes themselves were getting hit. I personally would save up and buy a new opne before getting that. but if the tubes are fine and it hold pressure correctly it might be a good deal.

That Fluidyne looks nice... it already has the mounting brackets on it. I noticed when I got my Koyo, I had to take the brackets off the OEM radiator and put them on to the Koyo to mount it.

Well ****.. the forums crapped on me and I lost all of what I typed.. I don't remember a lot of it. Anyway, basically a really rough jist of what I said was. Thanks for all the help. The reason I'm getting a used radiator besides helping someone out is becuase I don't have the $300-400 for a new one. I just need a good up-to-spec radiator for my stock engine. And one that'll last a long time. I like the way the fluidyne one looks, it looks like a better quality one. But looks like I may have issuses keeping the stock airbox. Probably not though I'd probably have to move where I fill the radiator to beside the Alt.

Brody, I'm sorta interested. I don't want to back out on the other guy you know. PM me the details to 37814.

I'll get close ups of the radiator for the guy if I can ASAP.

That fluidyn looks very nice. You should have vertical mounted it though. Just make some brackets and stand it up straight. It stays so much colder.

If you mount it vertically it'll no longer seal to the airflow, you'll have a smaller core and it won't be a direct fit.

I'd be willing to bet that the rad leaks, or is very close to leaking where the fan rubbed, in the center especially. It doesn't look good and I wouldn't pay $20 for it, nevermind $200.

I stand by what I said. You can clearly see that the tubes have been rubbed, and are therefore structurally compromised. It has a much higher chance of leaking than a new rad.

Regardless of the specifics of this particular rad, given all the badness that happens to rotaries when they overheat, is this an item you want to take a chance on in order to save money? I'd want to make absolutely sure my rad was as strong as possible, rather than beginning to leak in a year or two as the tube corrode a bit.

Well I have been riding on stock radiator that has a hole in the top of it for a few months. So, anything is better really. With the closer pictures it doesn't look that bad it's pretty bad though.. and I feel like an ******* now becuase the price dropped. I feel like he could have sold the radiator for 200 to someone else if it wasn't for my post. I don't know.

i wouldn't pay $120 for it, because it can fail at any time if the fins carrying coolant were touched.

just not worth it especially when it can cost you a motor as well if it fails..

this picture particularly scares me:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...a/000_1435.jpg

the coolant tubes look to be worn paper thin, if they have not already started to leak they will in the near future regardless of how old the radiator is and no known way a shop can repair it that i know of.

take a sharpened pencil and poke those areas lightly while applyig some angled pressure, if it goes into the radiator tube without breaking the lead well then the radiator is toast.

If I had that rad I'd throw it in the garbage, it's not really ethical to sell it, because it's so compromised and could easily fail at any point in time.

Don't feel that way. it's used and has the markings to prove it. I'd never sell a radiator like that. you can clearly see in a couple of the pics that the tubes themselves have been hit, not just the fins. it's like selling a car with horrible compression and backing it up with "well hey, it still runs"

+1 with that, Its good you posted it. What if someone else did buy that rad for 200. They got it, install it on there car then it overheats and toasts the coolant seals? If it really doesnt leak, It's a miracle. Personally if I had that, I'd throw it away also. I wouldnt attempt to sell it. I wouldnt feel right about compromising someone elses hard earned money they have under there hood.

Ok so I guess I'll go CSF if I can't find a better offer. I havn't heard anything bad about CSF yet and there isn't a track around here that I know of so it'll be DD'd

Oh yeah projectredsuns I sorry if I caused you to not be able to sell your radiator. This thread wasn't posted with that intent.

I will post my experience with CSF radiators to give you an idea. Overall, a pretty good radiator for the price. Comes with a lifetime warranty as well. Been running on my wife's car now for about two months with no problems. HOWEVER, a flaw with their "finishing" caused me a lot of hassle. They apply some kind of black paint that is super-crap. It flakes if you touch it and that should have been my first clue.
I installed the radiator and I was constantly getting leakage from the bottom hose. Well, it turns out after new hose and constantly tinkering with it that the paint was to fault. I sanded all the paint off the hose necks and anywhere rubber would touch and it seems to work well now. My advice is go ahead and get a CSF if you are money constrained but make sure to get all that black paint off wherever rubber hose comes into contact with the radiator. Save yourself days of messing with leaking hoses.

Get an all metal replacement. CSF makes good quality units. Cost effective and bulletproof compared to the OEM plastic radiator. Check ebay stores and local auto stores (not chain stores).
