Does a lighter flywheel affect internal engine balance?

I don't see how it would, but I thought I'd check any way. Does it?

thanks

Short answer "No," but it does change the rotating weight of the counterweight, which is why you need a new counterweight for a lighter flywheel. Think about it, it will make sense someday.

So I can't run a lighter flywheel without getting a lighter counter wheigt? I didn't think I would have to replace that too. What size would I need to run a 14 lb flywheel?

They usually come with a counterweight. If not, its usually one from an automatic model.

Most that I've seen do not include the counter weight. And yes, if they do not, you need to find a counterwieght from an automatic rx-7 with the same engine internals.

If you get the proper counterweight it doesnot affect the ballance at all. It reduces rotating mass but not the ballance.
