Do I need this internal engine piece?

88 TII: The piece is the metal sleeve/shield that bolts on to the oil pump with the two bottom bolts. I have my engine totally assembled after my rebuild, flywheel and all, and now I found this piece that I forgot, so you can see why I'm not eager to put it in. So is that piece necessary?

thanks

No, not really.
It helps keep the oil from splashing onto the chain.
I don't think even the FD's have it...

i think it also protects the housing if the chain breaks, not that it matters, if the chain breaks your motor is toast. hehe.

i wouldn't worry much about it.

Hardcore weight reduction mods:

1) Taking the casting flash off your TB.
2) Stripping the paint off your car
3) Driving with 2psi lower in each tire

I wouldnt worry about that peice either.
