diver side door problems

87 turbo 2

im having a little trouble with my driver side.

First off i cant seem to roll my window down, it seem like the power window switch is working anymore. there is a lot of play when i try to roll up or down. My question is is there anyway of repairing the switch or do i have to replace it all together, and if i do have to replace it where can i get one. (im in the west coast about an hour away from San Francisco)

My second question is i cant seem to open my driver side door from the outside it will open fine from the inside. so if i want to get into my car its via the passenger side door.

Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to search but i couldnt find anything clear.

From the way it sounds, your switch is fried and the outer door handle broke, which are both common problems with these cars.

You can buy a good switch and door handle for less than $70 for both in the classified section of this forum.

if you acess the wires to the switch, and apply 12v you can roll it up, and if you switch the + and ground wires you can roll it down. BTW

and no s4 isnt compatable with s5 window switches

can't believe nobody's made a diving joke yet, like "is it the portside or starboardside window?" you all let me down.

It's really easy to take the window switch apart and see what's going on inside. My windows used to be super slow and sometimes not work at all. When i took the switch out and apart i felt stupid for not doing it years ago by how easy and fast it was to just clean everything up inside or at the very least just see what has failed. A lot of play in the switch up to down does sound like something actually broke but its not hard to confirm. It may be possible to swap out the pieces from the passengers side of it to the drivers just for a temp fix since the passenger side has its own switch. I forget how its laid out exactly inside, stuff that doesn't give me trouble to do i forget very quickly.

just took the switch apart and wow it was easy. that being said there is a broke piece in there so im thinking of just using some crazy glu as a temp fix. but i still need help on fixing the outer door handle.

It probably is the outer door handle that has broken its the most common reason but if you haven't taken the door panel off to see what's going on, there is no more help we can give you than that. If its broken, replace it.
