Dismantling tranny when stuck in reverse
Ok I have a small dilema. I baught a tranny off of ebay for dirt cheap, the catch was that it was stuck in reverse. I figured this would be an easy fix considering I have taken appart 5 different mazda transmissions that I own including a 1g RX-7 tranny. This tranny I baught off of ebay is from a 90 model convertable. I can't get the shifter assembly or tail housing off because it is stuck in reverse and I can't figure out how to get the shifter cup off. It looks like it is just held in with a pin but how do I remove the cup the shifter ball rides in if it is stuck in reverse and won't move.
P.S. There is evidence that the guy who owned it beat the **** out of trying to get it appart and the entire shifter assembly will probably have to replaced anyways.

Try taking out the 5th/reverse switch and with a screw driver (or 90º angle screwdriver if trans is on car) and flick the push rod towards the back (if I remember correctly). This pop it out of gear. It's happening to me right now... I can fix it, but I need to find the cause!
