Dim headlight problem, searched

Hey guys my car is suffering from the dim headlight problem. Its on my drivers side (your passenger side) I searched and found it has to be a bad earth or a connector problem which makes sense. I checked my connectors, hit em with contact cleaner, they seem fine. Where is the earth for the headlight located? Is it the normal battery earth, because i doubt thats the problem my car seems to have had an earth wiring kit put throught it, i checked all those.

Download the series five wiring diagrams: http://www.rotorwiki.com/images/6/6c...ngDiagrams.pdf

Look at the index and go to the EXTERIOR LIGHTS.

Look at it and you'll see the ground for the head lights is the number 2 or the number 4 with a circle around the 2 or the 4.

The ground 2 (circle around it) is found on a ground block located below the Trail Coil assy and bolted to the back of the left strut tower. It's a black plug with black wires attached to a six prong metal outfit that is bonded to the chassis.

The ground 4 (circle around the number, again) is for cars with airbags and is located up front around the headlight. I don't have a airbag car and don't know just where.

On the site in the url, tab forward fourteen pages and there you will find the ground points for the car. Also page fwd six pages to see how to read the gournd diagrams.

Ah thankyou heaps, its dark now so ill investigate this after work tomorrow, this will more than likely solve my problems as the earth makes perfect sense. Thanks alot

Well it seems i am in a bit of trouble here, downloaded the diagram. searched my car and its been modified a fair bit and i cannot find this ground plug lol. What a pain!

The fact that my car is a jspec wouldnt be an issue here would it?

JSPEC..........got me.

On the USA version, both headlights use the Same gnd.

I'd either swap healights from left to right or get a meter out and measure the gnd for the good light vs the bad light. I'd say it's just a bad bulb.

By headlight is in its last days, do u mean the bulb? For the light to be working but dim seems like an obvious earth problem to me. I found the relay and it looked to be in good nick. Have checked the bulb though it looked good as new

Yes, the bulb. When I had a similar problem, it was because the ground (earth) pin on the bulb had gone bad. The current has to go through your low beam filament, your high beam filament, and through the other lamp's high beam filament to find ground. That's why you have a really dim light. Replace both of your lamps before they both go dim when you need them most! But like has been mentioned before, you can tell if it's the bulb or the wiring by swapping the bulbs from one side to the other. If the dim problem follows the bulb, the bulb is the problem. If it's still dim on the same side as before, the wiring is the problem.
