Before you get hits abou tusing the search function. I believe the differense is pretty slight. I know the TII's differ by 5th gear ratios. I think the difference might just be 5th gear ratios.

S5's were fully sincronized including reverse,
gear rations were slightly different... but the search button will reveal more information than you can digest!

No you don't. That's complete bullshit. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post. Not only is your post wrong, but if you were to put an S5 flywheel on an S4 engine without also changing the front counterweight and the rotors internal to the engine (which requires full engine dissassembly), then your engine would vibrate like crazy during running conditions and destroy the stationary gear bearings and eccentric shaft of the engine. Your information would cost someone an engine.

The clutch disk was slightly larger in diameter for the S5's to cope with the higher power. The pressure plate sizing, bolt spacing, tranny input splines are all identical between series.

You can use a series four pressure plate and clutch disk on a series 5 car, and vice versa. You can swap trannies between series four and series 5 and change nothing else (except the tranny mounting bar).

The only signifcant difference in the S4's and S5's was an altered 5th gear ratio for slower 5th gear acceleration but better fuel economy. Other than that, they are pretty much identical.

Thanks guys, yeah i did use the search but nothing gave me the depth i wanted to know. For example does anyone have the numbers in the 5th gear ratio's S4 v. S5? which one had the better mileage in 5th (this would almost answer previous question)?

S5's had better milage in fifth.
N/A's: 0.711:1 for S4's, 0.697:1 for the S5's.
Turbo's had 0.762:1, if you care.

The GTUs also had its own 5th gear ratio, which I can't recall off the top of my head.

Slower acceleration with a lower number numerically, so the S5's would accelerate slower in 5th than the S4's (given an equal power level at the engine).

I may be wrong on this, but the GTUs was somewhere around 0.76:1, so it was the fastest accelerating in fifth of all the N/A's. Not sure on that one though, merely what I have read. We don't have the GTUs in Canada (but we do get the GT).

They'll bolt right up and as long as you aren't going from N/A to TII you won't need to change anything. I have a S5 GXL that was an auto and now has a TII transmission along with a ACT prolite flywheel bolted to the original auto counterwieght. TII clutch and slave sylinder also. But the S5's have lighter rotors so they use different counterwieghts. All rotors TII or N/A from 89 on including the FD rotors all wieghed the same.

The S5 tranny also had a 'dynamic dampener' (deadweight) on the output shaft, presumably to help improve the dreadful shift action of these trannies.............
