differential mount

Does anybody have a picture of where the front diff mount is? What is the easiest way in finding why my car thumps in the rear?

Thumps in the rear

Good diagnosis. Sounds like you do have a broken front diff mount

Do a search, lots of threads on "how to's" for this.

look in the 2nd gen archive. Theres a thread in there with lots of info that I started. Theres instructions on how to change it too. A thump in the rear when you give it gas or let go of the gas is a good sign of a broken diff. mount.

LOL! I got confused when I first read this post until I saw that nice diagram. I was thinking "Front differential" mount. "Hmm since when do RX-7's have some type of front differential!"

You never heard of the 4WD RX-7? It was only imported in limited numbers for those of us that want the MAD-handeling skills and live in BFE with no paved roads

CWATERS... Yeah. Audi stole the design off the MAZDA 4WDRX7. They have no shame.
Thanks to MIKEL for the picture. When I stop being retarded I'm going to learn how to post pictures, diagrams etc.

The front one is the one that always goes bad. I called up Mazdatrix and asked them if the two rear mounts ever go bad and they told me that they dont go bad very often. They just told me to change the front mount and check out the rear ones while I'm at it. Mines still looked good. My front mount was $135 from the dealer. hope that helped

whats the symptoms of sagging/broken mounts? I've never heard the thump, but my car does the buckling dance on low rpms/speed and gear. changed the engine/tranny mounts made no difference so it has to be diff! btw engine mount(left i think) is broken again.
Help...

if you are getting wheel hop thats how you break your front differential mount. i just replaced mine like 3 weeks ago. not a super hard job if you have it on a lift with all the tools and everything (dad's a mechanic ) took us an hour and a half. pm me if you need any help or encounter any problems. i also have a pic of my broken diff mount, so if u need a pic of it i can get it up.

haha, When I replaced mine, I learned to say, "Differential Front Mount" instead of,"Front Differential Mount." Some guys at the dealer were being all cynical and telling me,"RX7's don't have a front differential. They are rear wheel drive." I know that dammit!!

I broke the mount because I discovered "power shifting" and kept on doing it 'till I noticed something was wrong.

What does that mount actually mount to besides the differential? I see 2 maybe 3 bolts. How many are there? Why do people weld it and what do they weld it to?

HAHAHA... oh. you can blow your rear end out seeing as though the mount holds the hole differential up. change it quick before its too late.
