Question different types of FC's?

i just recenty bought a 91 fc non trubo. however it is not a gxl or a turbo II. before buying my car, i test drove a bunch of other fc's. some would redline at 8,000 and others at 7,000. why? did mazda make better engines in the later models? what models were made besides the gxl and the turbo II? thanks in advance.
p.s. - im a newb.

Read the FAQ threads at the top. You'll probably find what your looking for. If not, let the questions fly.

The 91 didn't have a "type" (GTU, GXL, etc) It's just the non turbo coupe. Also the turbo models weren't called "Turbo II" They were just the turbo model.

The S5 (89-91) have a 8K RPM redline with 160 BHP.
The S4 (86-88) have a 7K RPM redline with 146 BHP.

Also... try reading the stickies at the top of the page, they will answer most of your questions, as well as the archives, for some good reading once you get your 7 (I.E. "how do I make more power out of a N/A") these topics are covered very nicely in the archives.

That's because in 91 (as he said) they dropped the II.

The 91 Turbo was only called the Turbo, and not the TurboII
