A different money thread.

I have seen all of the "How much do you have invested?" threads, and I was wondering...if you could do it all over again, how much money could you save yourself being armed with the knowledge of experience?

I have around $8 grand invested in my car, and I could have gotten the same performance for around 4, but it wouldn't have the looks of the paint job.

i either wouldnt have put the 13b or the 20b in mine. i have put 2 motors in my car in the last 18 months, if i would have done the 20b right away it would have saved me like 3k

About $7,000 could duplicate my car right now - that's about half of what've spent up to this point...

hmm... $0.00 / 2 = $0.00... so I guess I fit in to this category too....

actually, I coulda saved myself some cash on the cooling system if I had replaced the rad cap, rather than driving it as is... dammit...

20B FC: About 1/3 loss ($10-12K) due to ignorance and incompetence. Still counting, though.
84 GS: About $200-250 loss out of a $6K car, not bad.
88 TII: I took a $600 loss on the sale, again, not too bad.

A good support base really helps to reduce the mistakes, but you are never going to get everything right the first time.

Thanks to this forum, i've saved money as opposed to dumping it out. I'd estimate my savings around 2K for my 83 GSL and around 1K thusfar for the 91 TII. Someone wanted to rebuild my carb on my 83 when it turned out (after some search) to be a shitty vacuum hose above the exhaust manifold (anyone that has had a 12A should know).

I do however beat myself up for taking the car in for a clutch job, when I just could have done it myself. But the way I try to keep it in a positive light is to think this: I could have broken bolts/studs. This way, even by outing myself a few hundred, someone else has broken loose those 88K bolts, so whenever I get my broke *** around to upgrading the exhaust, it'll come off rather easily.
