I have a 1990 RX-7 and want to know how I can tell difference between the GTU and GTUs

 

I think GTUs doesn't have sun roof , rear wiper, and it has 16" TII rims......

 

If its a 90, its probably NOT a GTUs...Only 100 of them were made in 1990.

Basically the GTUs is the S5 version of the S4 GTU. With the S5 series, the GTU became the base model, and the GTUs was pretty much a T2 sans turbo.

 

The GTUs will have an alum hood, 4 piston front brakes, no power win, probably not a sunroof, 16 inch wheels (in stock form).

 

GTUs is OTC.

 

GTUs:
- 1.3L N/A rotary motor
- TII suspension
- Front 4 piston brakes
- 4.30 rear end gear ratio
- 5 speed manual (special 5th gear to take advantage of the new rear end ratio)
- No sunroof
- No rear wiper
- No tilt steering (solid steering shaft)
- Manual windows
- TII 16” wheels with 205/55/R16 rubber
Red w/ black interior, black w/ black interior, or white w/ blue interior
- Optional factory installed AC

 

All that is the exact definition of my car, except mine came with UGLY *** rims and they were only 15". And because of my engine problems my 5th gear is terrible.

 

In addition to the above, the GTUs had viscous LSD, vehicle speed sensing power steering, and no radio from the factory.

Wow did I have a brain fart forgot about those two, so you are correct about all except the radio. GTUs did come with a radio. Only option was the factory installed AC.

The steering was engine speed sensing, not vehicle speed sensing and used the 17.1 rack (just like the InfiniIV and 91 'vert).

 

An ez way to tell if it's a GTUs is checking the tire size on the drivers side door panel. If it is a GTUs then the tire size will be 205/55/16 just like the TII also GTUs's came with TII rims, but check the sticker just in case the rims were changed. If not then it's not a GTUs. If you still wanna make sure, then take the car out for a drive. While driving in 5th gear, go up to 80mph. At 80mph the rpm's should be right on 4000rpms. Hope this info helps. White with black interior also exists. My buddy has a 90 GTUs, passes all tests, even the door jam sticker . Its for sale if anyone's interested.
