Oops, broke the stud when removing it. Didn't take that much torque, so I guess it's good that it happened now instead of later.
So... is that lower stud replacable, or am I looking at new lower mounts? The upper stud is in good shape, and the rubber isn't shredded or anything...

*edit: just checked w/ Mazdatrix and he's got them for $38 + shipping. If I grab them from him, is it horribly bad to drive it with out that thing bolted in? I'm assuming that the weight of the engine isn't enough to keep it slotted in the chassis.

people are driving FC's all over the place with sheared off/broken engine mounts as we speak. If you are worried about it don't do any hard drive train shocks (clutch kicking or launching etc.) and i think you'll be fine. you might notice a bit of shakey/jerkyness under engine decel and such but nothing to harsh. just bolt on the side that's good and stick the stud in the hole for now.

yep two of my buddies decided it was time for new mounts. both of them had at least one where the rubber part was totally pulled off the big metal mushroomy part so gravity was holding that side together. one of them had one broken and the other broken through about 75%. car didn't explode or anything .
if you wanna be picky, i think mazdaformance has competition motor mounts that are stiffer.

Alright, cranked that mount on. That was a huge pain. I had to put another jack in there to raise the engine a bit more then I was, and then had to use a wrench and pry against the oil pan to get the bolts to slot in. I wonder how many people have crossthreaded their irons putting the mounts back on.
I don't think that mount is doing much anymore either. I poked a bit at the "cup" that it bolts into on the frame, and it's pretty brittle and I was able to poke the screw driver through a bit. It's just thin at the joint between the cup and the frame. Above and below the metal is strong and only has surface rust on it. So... I guess that mount wasn't doing much of anything anyways.
