IL Did i fry my oil pressure gauge?

Hello, finally got another rx7. I got a 91 vert about a week ago with a smoked clutch, I replaced the clutch but when sticking the trans back on I pinched the wire that has the oil pressure sender condensor/capacitor between the block and trans. not the wire that clips onto the sendor but the one on the same circuit with the little relay sized black condensor. I did not have time to pull the trans back off so i drove it home like this, the gauge then displayed the max reading for about a day. after about 2 days the gauge showed less than 0 pressure, as far below zero as it can read. today i finally pulled the trans back far enough to pull the little black box out and rebolt it to ground, the gauge still displays negative and does not move. I lost all my diagrams and such that i used to have, does anyone know a quick way for me to check for voltage or resistance to see if my cluster is fried? I am hoping it doesnt go as far as a ecu driver, not sure what the circuit looks like. thanks for any info

yeah you probably fried the gauge. circuit is simple, its just that wire, goes right to the gauge with the condenser Teed in.

manuals are @ www.foxed.ca

most likely it is out of calibration at the very least now. the circuit shouldn't be grounded for more than a few seconds and only for diagnostic purposes.

so is there a DIY repair that can be done or does the guage have to be replaced?

scratch that ...

i found the answer here: Young Gunner Thread

Satch and 959595rotor pretty much sum it up. by grounding the condenser you fry a plastic arm in the guage itself. it's junk now. replace it.

forgot to check back, just read that thread and now i want to take my cluster apart to see what arm they are talking about. I know that my needle itself isnt melted in place because with the wire grounded the needle was at top and when i shut the key off it fell to the bottom. ill check it out this weekend at the shop, im guessing there are others with pinched wires that would like to know if it can be fixed.
