CO Removing Instrument Cluster

I can't get the cluster out far enough to get my hand in there and remove the cables. How much slack should the wires have? I have broken enough stuff, damn car is too old everything is so brittle and I'd rather not break the thing that tells me how fast I am going.

What order do I need to unplug the wires? I am removing the dash and this is holding me up. Well that and I cut my hand and also carpal tunnel is making twisting things hard

It's the speedo cable that's holding you up...disconnect it at the transmission and unclip from the chassis to get extra slack.

Go under the car on the driver's side and you will see the Speedo Cable is held by a plastic Square Tab like thing.
Undo the speedo cable from that "holder" and then go up the the firewall and shove the cable IN a bit towards the inside of the car.
That will give you enough room to get the Cluster moved,as the speedo cable hinders the cluster from freely moving it out from the dash.
You can access the wires from the left.Reach in between the Wires on the Connector and there is a small TAB that you squeeze(then pull gently) and the whole big *** round connector will pop of the back of the cluster.

Seriously? I was trying to take mine out the other day, this is how it's done? Such an inconvenience lol. Thanks for the heads up. I'll do that when I change the TOB, clutch, and flywheel.

Cool, Car is already jacked up, as I was trying to remove the calipers after draining the oil in prep for the turbo swap. I'll do that after work tomorrow. Thanks for the help, I love this forum. Someone has always been through it

BTW thanks guys, slipped under the car caw the speedo cable and released the hooks. That is all I needed to get the cluster out. Dash is now completely out ready for clean and paint.

Wires look like a mess back there though, I think someone has been in there before because I don't think it came with electrical tape from the factory.
