Did I Blow My Turbo?!?!?!?!

Hey,
I was just driving home and boosting hard when all of a sudden in 3rd boost just stopped and car started smoking....I pulled over and smoke engulfed me...I poped the hood to fine the DP where it bolts to the turbo is wet,I think oil but I wasnt about to touch it, and there oil all over th BOV connections I shut the car off to wait for my ride started it again just to see and it started right up but SMOKES LIKE I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CAR SMOKE!!! Its a stock S4 turbo with 147000 miles I figured it was about to go, is that what happened???

Thanks

ok so now that its cooled a little I took the TID off and there is a 1/4" play left to right and it knocks when I wiggle it back and forth......also here is a pick of where the DP bolts to the turbo its dark and its with my phone so its not a great shot but you can get the point.....also car starts right away smokes a little but if I give it any gas it poors out of the exhaust!

I'm no expert on turbos, but here goes. Is there anything that looks obviously broken? Bolt loose, oil lines off, etc?

I know that, but I was wondering if there was a specific componenet that looked broken, other than it just moving aroudn a lot.

I have a t2 and if you dont replace the turbo within 100k it will blow. IT sounds like the bearing in the turbo blew.

what is broken would be inside

the seal behind the exhaust turbine if you are looking from the downpipe.....

if it is clanking when wiggled then it is definitely dead, find a good replacement.

who sais they die at 100K? mine lasted 178k and i then transplanted it into another rotary in which it still is working just fine however it does smoke a little between high RPM shifts because the cold side seal is getting worn.

Yeah you could use the s5 turbo with s5 manifold. Just make sure turbo is in good shape with no cracks as well as the manifold and your good to go. Since s5 turbo has bigger wastegate to begin with I would definitely make sure to port it out even more to prevent boost creep. You should get a bit better response from turbo since s5 uses divided manifold setup.

Other than that, just make sure you don't pay an arm and a leg for turbo because if thats the point, why not just upgrade......lol.

yeah sounds like a good deal.........I'd say go for it. Just remember you can still do more porting on the wastegate and easy when turbo is out. With s5 turbo you wont have to worry bout twin scroll actuator BS.
