daytime running lights

The lenses that are right below the pop-up headlights, i'm not sure if these are the daytime running lights, there seems to be no light coming from them, or no way of light coming from them. Are they supposed to light up? There is a rubber piece blocking any possibility of light entering those lenses. I'm not talking about the turn signals if anyone's confused.

Also, one side has condensation, I wanna wipe it off or something, people have suggested drilling a hole in it, but I wanna avoid that. Is there an easy way of taking the lens out?

These are the FTP (Flash To Pass) lenses. When your headlights are down, notice how they still point forward, not down like in some cars with pop-up headlights. With the headlights down, if you pull back the turnsignal switch (as if you were to turn your hi-beams on), the headlights will flash through the FTP lenses. About taking the lenses off, I don't think it's too difficult, but I'm not sure what has to be done offhand.

I mounted some cheap 55w fogs in the brake duct opening & wired them as DRL's.

have fun taking them off, I would put money on you breaking one of the scrrews. they are kinda stuck in there, all you need to do is flip up your headlights and you can reach in there with a socket wrench probably an 8mm. unscrew both sides and then punch the lense out hit it in the middle. I personally cut into the headlight retractor relay in the main fuse box and sent wires up to the consol and put in a switch, that way I could use the flash to pass ports as running lights and I also use them as my headlights when doing city driving. mainly cause I have really bright headlights, I think they are 100/90 H4's.

here is a pic, my car is the second to the left with the Turbo hood. my FTP's are out and that works for me. cause chances are your ftp's are clouded or dirty there fore they would restrict the light.

I cheated a little.
I took the shot during early twilight to exaggerate the effect.

For comparison here is a similar shot with 20w (toy) fogs

ok, I tried turning the highbeam switch on w/ my headlights down, and they don't shine. I'm from canada if that makes any difference, cuz I know the driving lights work differently.

I still wanna know what those rubber flaps are behing the FTP lenses. Yeah, I tried reaching down there to take it apart, i dont' think that's gonna happen w/o removing a lot of other things, it's pretty cramped in there

Are you pulling on the switch and holding it? Get someone to pull the switch while you watch.

You have to remove the plastic trim around the headlights to reach the nuts that hold the FTP lenses in. To be safe, make sure you pull the "Retractor" fuse in the engine bay fuse box before sticking your hands down there.

wait, so you have to pull and hold the switch down for it to go on? and does you hand brake have to be off too? kinda pointless to have those lights just for that purpose don't u think?

There are (2) 8mm nuts holding each FTP from the backside. They are very simple to remove, just pop your hood and feel behind them - you will feel the post screws w/nuts.
P.S. they might be 10mm nuts

in canada. the 89-91 rx7's have daytime running lights. but they are the fog lights under the turn signals. they should be on whenever the e-brake is off. the 86-88 rx7's don't have foglights. as daytime lights are only required on 90 and newer cars.

yes the FTP lights only stay on while holding it. hence the name "flass to pass" you pull back, let go, pull back, let go. and you are flashing people... instead of the lights poping up each time.

like I said above you can pull your retractor fuse and just turn your headlights on then the brights on and it will shine through the ports. use your brights cause the main beams are not strong enough. But beware doing that might cause you to leave your lights on from time to time. Lates Matt22

Man, don't do that, it's real stupid. Firstly the FTP lenses let only a very narrow beam of light though, dramatically reducing your field of vision at night. Secondly if you drive around with them on high beam you'll be blinding oncoming cars with your lights because of the way they're focused. Your headlights work perfectly the way they are. Don't mess with them.
