dangeling wire
i found this wire dangeling down when i was changing my fuel filter. We verified that it comes from the harness from the tranny and bolts to the slave cylinder. the wire is conected to a resistor pack then to a ring conector where it connects to the slave cyl. my question is, what does this wire do? and what problems are caused by it not being hooked up? I don't plan on leaving it disconected, just wanted to know what it does.

i haven't tested it for voltage. it's a black wire, looks like a ground. no idiot lights. I haven't pulled codes yet, i probably should though. my friend's 87 base has it on his slave cylinder. my hot idle has been fucked up lately, could this do it?

my friends 87 was right next to mine in his garage. we had pulled his motor the day before. i noticed it when i was changing the fuel filter as i was pulling fuel lines i noticed this dangeling ring conector right in there. does anyone have a clue about this mysterious wire?

Nope, not that. I posted earlier, and earlier, and I got oil pressure sending unit ok, coolant temp sending unit ok, intake air thermosensor ok, oil level sensor ok, what else is there that I am missing?

No, fuel and oil filters are on driver's side. Right behind and below oil filter is oil pressure sending unit, my dangler is same color as that one, yellow and red, with female end of spade type connector dangling. I'll keep searching thanks!

yea thats the main ground from the tranny to the firewall. this wire has a little black box right before the ring conector (ring comes out from the box) this wire was dangeling down in the bay somewhere and on my friends 87 its hooked to the slave cylinder mounting bolt. it comes from the wiring harness that runs by the tranny. no idea what it does. can i ground it anywhere or does it have some special function?
I found the same one (box w/ ring) hanging in my car, I asked around, someone else seamed to know what it was but I didn't understand. I bolted mine to the firewall for now, not sure where it actually goes.
just a ground. ground it. Mine (TII) was bolted to the tranny pass. side bell housing. The other end wasn't connected, but i found the male end on the side of the windshield washer motor; also on the pass. side. Basically it doesn't really affect the car's operation if you have performed the grounding technique in the archives. All mine did was cause the shift indicator light to flsh on and off a whole bunch when I was supposed to shift. Now that its hooked up, it just comes on; no flashing.
Ive noticed a similar wire. I believe it to be a ground as it is generelly bolted to the bellhousing via the slave cylinder. I just reooked one up on my brothers 87 sport, the wire itself runs directly into the wiring harness that runs to teh starter and battery.
So, in other words, it actually does serve a purpose if it the wire telling you when to shift.
Correct? On my 90 FC3C, have never seen a light to tell me when to shift, maybe that is it.
Doesn't matter, after 25 years of driving, I dont need a light to tell me to shift, but I want everything stock and working, so I'll check it . Thanks a lot.

yeah i noticed that wire. my buddy has an 86 and i saw it, it was all hooked up in the right place cuase his is 100% stock. i was like what the ****? becuase my 86 does not have that wire... maybe thats why my car will not go above 3800 rpm? something to do with that wire
I will check on mine tomorrow, and let you know. I still think it is something else, but I am willing to check into it. I read something about a heat yada yada sensor, or something, Ill check into that also.

OK, I will describe what I found that the female end-"dangling wire" goes to. Its a square sensor-relay, with a "washer" attached for mounting to the ending as I assume, ground, with the numbers 0.47/250 - next line - R 17 G - next line H. I can't really explain any more, but I'm looking. Maybe someone can enlighten, Hailers, ?

It's a small square box probably around the size of a dime. It has a small metal ring part to bolt onto something....
It's for the oil pressure sensor.
It's used for somethign like smoothing out EMI or something like that. That way your oil sensor reads correctly.
It's not absolutely needed but is recommened since all you have to do it screw it onto something like your bell housing or slave cylinder.
I'm lazy and never redid mine when I pulled my tranny. No adverse affects so far.
