It's for the oil pressure sensor.

It's used for somethign like smoothing out EMI or something like that. That way your oil sensor reads correctly.

It's not absolutely needed but is recommened since all you have to do it screw it onto something like your bell housing or slave cylinder.

I'm lazy and never redid mine when I pulled my tranny. No adverse affects so far.
Its called the condensor, and is used to prevent the oil pressure gauge from burning out if the sender fails. Without it, the oil pressure gauge can be burned out if the wring is shorted or the sensor sticks.

Not for EMI

This has been covered countless times...
