Arrow Damn s5 na swap still wont start. Is this AFM plug broken and what is this wire

Ok guys i still cant get this thing to start. I tried the unflood procedure and that is not the issue. I got electrocuted making sure there was spark and i pulled the fuel lines back and there is fuel, so I am wondering what it is that I am missing.

The harness for the AFM plug looks cracked but all of the wire look like they are where they need to be but there is one loose one that does not plug into anything.

Help?

S5 na swap to/from what? Do you have the correct AFM? A loose/unconnected wire at the connector doesn't sound right. Check the wiring diagram in the FSM to track down the function of the wire.

That "wire" looks like the nylon cord they put in multicable.

The afm only becomes a factor after the engine has started and rev'd to 3000 RPM and the computer switches fuel maps.

If the engine ran before you pulled it out of the coupe (I'm assuming this is the same swap as mentioned in previous posts) then it should run now providing you have everything hooked up exactly as it was before.

Did you connect the main ECU ground. It connects directly to the top of the engine block. That is very important.

You say you shocked yourself checking for spark? Did you actually lay the spark plug on a groundable surface (say the top of the engine) and crank it over looking for spark? Depending on how well you were shocked you may just skip this test and assume it works well.

When you did the deflood procedure did a bunch of gas (probably a cloud of it) come out of the spark plug holes? If so it was indeed flooded. If not did you smell any gas at all? Does any smoke come out of the tailpipe? If not your injectors are probably not working OR your fuel lines are hooked up backwards.

Good luck

the afm plug wire is not nylon. It is metal. It is quite possible the fuel lines are backwards. There was no smoke. I highly doubt it was flooded and the engine ran perfectly before i did the swap. I know it isnt anything serious. I will check that ECU ground as you said and try swapping the fuel lines.

The GREEN wire has a shielded wire around it. The Green wire is the output wire. The shielded wire is the one that is dashes in the attached jpg. It gets grounded with the ECU wires as shown. Only shielded at one end. That's all thats needed. It, the shield should never touch the internal conductor of the GREEN wire.

You don't know what a shielded cable is so you don't understand. That wire is a part of the outer shield of the Green wire. IT goes nowhere at the AFM end of the cable. At the OTHER end, which is close to the ECU plug, it's spliced into the ECU grounds .........to ground the Shield. It's not your problem.

The only fast and easy way to figure out what is wrong, is to get out a digital multimeter, and backprobe each of the wires in the ECU plug(s), and compare YOUR findings with the values given in the FSM (Fuel and Emissions, Contro Unit).

You unbolt the ECU but leave the plugs attached. You unbolt it to make it easier to access the wire side of the plug(s).

The damn fuel lines were backewards. Now to figure out why there is coolant at my feet in the floorboard.
