Cutting FTP's?
I just caught this picture in another thread...
I was wondering if a setup like this would provide sufficent lighting for normal driving. Function over form; and if you can cut your FTP's out and ditch the headlight motor assemblies, then I'm all for it.

I seen something like that before but they cut the FTP all the way to the headlight *digs for picture* got one,
but I'm really not sure if it is enough light or not. We've tried it with the FTP in and its just a tad to dim.

Like I said, we did it with the lenses and full bumper in there. You can see alright, the biggest problem is alignment. Mess with it one day. Just at night turn headlights off and close them. Then pull your brights on, and hold them.

I thought about doing that, but then all that fabricating and trying to make them look symetrical changed my mind. I just removed my FTP lenses and use the high beam at night.

i think it would look better if the hood and the headlight covers were one piece, like one giant hood. as it is now it just looks like a giant headlight assembly taking up way too much space.

Having them sunk back in like thats seems like it would be cutting the side area of where your lights would shine. Maybe im wrong, but just seems like the lightswould need to be moved foreward in order to provide better coverage area.

what about moving the bulb forward and putting a plexiglass cover over it that follows the curve of the bumper, ditching the motors and maybe fabbing up a new pass. side cover that feeds directly into a cold air/ram air box?

Heh heh... coverage.
Anyway, that's what I was just thinking. Seems like you'd only be able to see straight ahead of you.
WAYYYY off topic, but I just saw this: . What the hell is he doing at the end... thowing a baton?

If you're worried about light pattern don't do it.
Straight-ahead might be okay, but the peripheral coverage absolutely sucks.
This kinda mod is more for looks rather than function.
Either than or support the main headlights with auxiliary lamps mounted properly...

I'd say that you'd just have to move the lights forward or use a set of driving lights down in the grill of the bumper in the corner cut-out areas too
as far as that baton thing, its the secondary fire of the rocket launcher or something in unreal tornament it bounces around, then blows up

I plan on remving the whole shebang, doing like the black car did, covering the front with lexan possibly, and mounting new lights up against the lexan. I then also plan on having a hood made that covers the stock pop-up location. This is the only way I would even consider modifying my lights aside from possibly having it EXACTLY like the black car, but cut the right holes and route it as an intake, and still use the lights as pop-ups. I know there's a race team down in florida that makes the hood that I want piece by piece for their cars that said they'd make them to order. If I can manage to access my laptop's harddrive (had beer spilled on it a long time ago) I'll post up their information.

BTW I'm doing this to one of YOUR Type II noses.
...and from what everyone's saying, I'll probably cut it; try and remove as much weight from the headlight assemblys as I can; making them permanantly down, and then throw on a pair of aux lights.
