Custom intake pipe question!!!
I'm about to do a Turbo II manifold swap on my S5 bridgeport which currently has a 650 holley carb on it. Until I save up for all the necessities to install a turbo on it, I need to create a temporary pipe from the TB to the AFM/filter. So far two suggestions where: 1. spray painted pvc pipe (low cost, cool temps, light) 2. an aluminized exhaust pipe. I know I will also need couplings and hose clamps, but I can't decide which route to take. It will obviously have to bend 90 degrees from the TB to lead straight down to the meter. Also it will be a 3" pipe. Any suggestions from custom rx7 owners.

Wait....you have a carburetor but you are connecting the intake to an AFM? I'm confused.
Search "prelude intake". The Prelude kits include a set of bends that work well on the RX-7. Also of course, you will need a carb hat.

If your running 650 holly carb right now and later mating a S5 TII manifold on what im assuming a S5 N/A Bridgeport, which is 6 port. I don't see how what your doing makes any sense right now.
What computer are you currently using?
Are you planning on ditching the carb setup?
What turbo will you be mating?
Is this a 4 port or 6 port 13b?

well I thought I was pretty clear on my question, but I guess not. I currently have a N/A bridgeport (6 port) with a 650 holley carb on it. I am swapping it to fuel injection. I will be using a Turbo II manifold. So that means no more carb or carb manifold. That cleared up, I want to create a pipe to go from the TB to the AFM. The options I have been told are back on the first post. Does this make sense now??
Aaron Cake, you should know the most about this given you basically have a similar idea, just more custom. I read your entire write up and saw you used some aluminum pipe that you had extra of. Is that the same type of pipe used on exhaust? Could I get the type of pipe you used from a muffler shop?

hmmm ok,
so 6port S5 turbo then, got it.
So what your trying to do is fab up a new UIM or mate up a machined S5TII UIM to your exsisting S5N/A LIM. What aaron used was mild steel for his UIM, but if you could source some aluminum you might be better off with that. You could get more info in where to source the type of metal you need to weld up by going to your local welding shop and they should direct you to the nearest metal supplier.
ALSO when you go turbo, you should move your AFM to your TID pipe, not your charge pipe. I am not to sure, but having a AFM in the same line path as your BOV might warrent some problems.

of coarse like I said, it's only a temporary pipe until I gather enough funds for the turbo setup. Things would obviously have to move around. About the manifold, I'm using a stock port matched S5 TII manifold with a modified stock S5 TB. I also got a 3" compression tube to increase the airflow to the TB. And that's where I need to start with a pipe to go down to the AFM. I'm starting to think painted PVC b/c I'll have to get all new piping to include BOV and front mount intercooler, etc. anyway. Unless a specific metal pipe is better. That's what my original question pertains to

nah you don't need a specific metal pipe for that purpose, steel or aluminum to couple with your AFM is fine, i wouldn't use painted PVC pipe generally speaking but if its temporary and you don't do very much spirited driving in the mean while its not that bad of an alternative.

Wow, I guess I must've hallucinated the aluminum part. About the AFM/standalone question: I am temporarily tuning the air/fuel mixture for now, also until I save up to go standalone and turbo. But I've thought about it and b/c it is only temporary, I think I'm gunna save my self a few bucks and go pvc (just won't lift the hood for anyone).
