custom air intake kit for T2

Hello, I am trying to make my own air intake for my T2 and i have a few questions.
As i take out the stock plastic inlet out, theres an extra tube coming out of the 1st part of the OEM inlet, and it leads to somewhere in the engine. (what part could that be?) also so i need to make a tube to the air pump (something like the OEM tube that leads to the air box from air pump).

thanks for the help guys.

Hey buds,
what do you mean by a 10/12mm filter?
do you mean that I do not need the air pump at all?
Thanks for the help man.

I think what you are talking about is the line that goes to the charcoal canister. You need to just run it into the custom intake. Another thing is do you want to run your BOV into the intake like stock or open air? As for the smog pump I would run a simple open filter. You know those small ones sorta the size of a golfball. Like $10 at most.

Make sure you keep the small metal part that runs on the charcoal canister line.

In this pic I used some of the blue vac hose line for the charcoal canister. I have since put on black hose line ment for fuel.At the time I ran the stock BOV using the top of a coke bottle,a paper clip, rubber band, and a small suction thingy. This allowed for open air. Cheap if you go that route.

Yeah, it's part of the PCV system. Take a look at my airbox thread here for pictures: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/diy-cold-air-box-830116/

In the 3rd pic, you'll see the red silicon hose with the silver check valve. That's it. You'll need to plumb it back into your new intake. You can also see my K&N breather filter on the air pump. It has about a 13/16" opening. K&N makes them for crankcase ventilation on piston engines.

ok. So i need a SMALL FILTER (like a secondary air filter) for the air pump. this is the same mechanism for our stock air box correct?

and from RotaryRocket88's pictures, What does the RED silicone hose connect to? I see it goes from the air intake tube to somewhere in the air pump.....?

Thanks for the help guys

Yes. You just need a small filter for the air pump inlet.

The red hose connects to a metal hardline that runs to the oil filler neck. Vapors from the "Crankcase" are fed through it.

ok i get the picture now. which size of a small filter should i get? 10mm or 12mm?

Also i'm planning to get this pipe on ebay

this tube comes with a small hose hook up.
the small hose hook up will act like the small hose from the OEM air intake inlet, hooking up to the metal hose behind the air pump.

am i on the right track guys?
