CS silencer works, but now my car looks/feels retarded

due to not being the sole owner (dad), i had to buy the silencer for my CS catback b/c he thought it was too loud... well, after 2 months of backorders, i finally got it and put it in... it is too small and the one screw holding it in doesn't provide any support, in low rpm i get this nice rattle and airy sound, like a 92 accord with a peashooter... sure it's quieter.... but it feels like my car is choking...

is there some serious performance loss putting it in?? extra backpressure b/c of the small opening?? (1.5" est.)

right now when selling an exhaust i got their stock exhaust off of a turbo.. (y-pipe and back) the tips have rusted off, but could the mufflers still be salvageable?? i'm looking for a cheap fix... $200 total maybe, to keep it quiet, but get all i can... can i use those mufflers maybe? custom pipes with those mufflers?? or add something to the CS exhaust to quiet it without putting the gay silencer in it??

You could get a standard glasspack muffler and have it welded in backwards in the exhaust piping of the cs. I had this done on my n/a and it quieted it down a lot. Cost is minimal.

I dont think it should too much. Point is, anything you do to "quiet" your car ( aside from using highly advanced acoustics... ), is going to hinder the free-flowingness of the exhaust system.

You cant have your cake and eat it too ya know?

I was just going to start a thread about this. I finally got my silencer as well. Are you running a header? Mine actually sounds better, a low grumble, not the explosion like it once was.

At this point, you'll have better luck by going with a dual catback. Trying to make a single quiet enough to appease your dad is going to net you a more restrictive exhaust than if you just went with a dual. Good luck.

Yeah, I have a TF DP/MP and a CS Catback, and it horrendously loud.. I may have my DP cut up and add a resonator in it..

I gave this a lot of thought before I sold my CS single: You can add a glasspack and it WILL take some of the "bark out of the exhaust note, but it'll still be loud as hell with the silencer insert removed. I agree about the silencer being lame. I could feel it choking the power over 5K when I had mine in. However, I ran a sound check on my ca.r (mods in sig w/CS single) I got 122db revving in neutral with the silencer removed and 102db with the silencer insert in place. (legal limit is 95db, if you care about that sort of thing) My wife refused to drive the car. She said it was too ricey. (Ouch!)
Now I'm running a TII catback and it feels like it has as much power as with the CS unit uncorked, but it only runs 94db. (measured this evening with my handy Radio Shack db meter)
Just my $0.02

Mines staying on even though it's ricey, it flows extremely well.

I am in a similar boat. I welded up my exhaust myself its a corksport 3 "dp, with 3" piping a 24"glasspack and Apexi N1(black colored one). The silencer quiets my car down quite a bit but its still extremely loud at WOT, with a very "rotaryesque" bark to it. I wish I could have the lightweight of a single and the sound of a dual. I have had 3 different setups in hte past, have had the RB full turbo back, rb dp&mp(the old oval style one) with 3" piping to HKS titanium hiper(sounded awesome!). and my current setup. I think I am gonna try replacing my glasspack with a Borla xr1 as it seems to be the most suggersted after doing a search. Its gonna be a bitch to change as my glasspack is welded to the front end of the catback with the front of it slip fitted to a cut off bottomed corksport down pipe.
I wish we got some of the mufflers marketed in Japan. Sard, HKS, Apexi, Fujitsubo all make electronically sound controlled mufflers. HKS's is awesome its silencer is like a camera iris of blades that electronically controlled will change the pipind diameter at the muffler inlet! I welded together a 3" slipfit coupler with a 2.5ish" diameter disc welded into on a pivoting rod, that I am gonna try putting a cable on into the cockpit. Basically just like the one that JIC make but manual not electric, not as pretty, and way cheaper. it will reuire me to cut a couple inches out of my exhaust and I havent had the ***** to try it yet.
