Crank windows in a Convertible!

Is it possible? has anyone done it? Is regular rx7 door windows the same as vert windows? I have a whole crank window setup with the glass and all i would love to convert the vert to crank window!

how different are the doors? ive never compared the manual windows and the power windows. i guess if they have the same mounting points for the tracks then yea give it a shot.

First, convertible and coupe window designs aren't the same. Second, coupe doors have metal all around the top/back side of the window, which means they would not fit on a vert either.

It might be possible to leave the windows themselves alone, but remove the window motors and cables. Then install the cable(?) crank mechanism from a coupe, along with the door panels. You would be sacrificing your door speakers to do this though, unless you cut openings in the coupe versions.

Probably the easiest thing to do is modify a coupe door panel, but you can get some chipboard, styrofoam, and some fiberglass and make your own door panels. Like rotaryrocket already said, the doors are different, so the door panels are too. Making a door panel isn't hard, you just have to take your time, measure alot, and cover it nicely with some nice upholstery.

Sounds like a pita to downgrade to manual cranks. If your windows are operating slowly, check all the electrical connections, and check the voltage drop across the motor when you move the switch. If it's not around 12v, you've probably got a high resistance connection somewhere that's robbing your window motor of power.

there were actually very few factory manual window convertibles, they do exist, but I have never seen one.

the regulators are different, the windows are different- so I cant see a manual window set up just jumping right in the vert

My advice: get used to that new-fangled electric window technology, and call it a day.
