single 10mm bolt or nut at the top and then unplug it.

You might try FC3S.org and see if they will resolder, but most mazda repair places would rather replace it.

If you can't find anyone to do it, PM or email me and I'll do it for you reasonably cheap.

Cheaper would be to take it to an electronics repair shop. They do fiddly solder work like that all the time. Mazda wouldn't want to know about repairing it. Like Icemark said, they'd want to replace it, probably for a heart-stopping price.

My horn didn't act up but my alarm did........and yes....replacing the "CPU" fixed most of my electrical gremlins....you can also re-solder the 'cold' joints.

CPU= central processing unit. Handles the normal everyday things you need in your car, like the turn signals. Located on drivers side by the fuse box.

ECU= Not sure what the letters stand for. This handles the engine management, like the ignition and fuel controls. Located on the passengers side behind where your feet go.

They are two completely different things. Basically the ECU is what makes your car go, and the CPU is what makes it street legal.

Yes

or is there another i guess called the ecu?
as mentioned in other replies the ECU controls the engine not the body.

Confirm your year?

It is a black box... My drawing points it out in the drivers kick panel very well.

Here’s a list of the equipment controlled by the CPU:

Indicators and hazard lights
Brake lights warning light
Headlights reminder buzzer
Key illumination timer
Seat belt buzzer and timer
Horn
Alternator warning light
Ignition key reminder buzzer

If you have any mysterious problems with any of these, the CPU should be the #1 Suspect.

Re-soldered my CPU and I regain functions on my FC I thought we never hd. Seatbelt buzzer and keylight reminder. Although small, I'm glad I took the time to Invest In doing this.

I haven't done my ECU yet. Do you guys recommend that I re-solder at the plugs (the bigger solder joints) or/and every single one?

You should really take the few seconds itll take to learn how to addd solder to an already soldered joint.

Take an old radio and get a soldering iron and some very thin rosin core solder.

practice.

You'll get the hang of it in about 2 minutes.

Also, get a solder sucker.

practice removing solder just in case you bridge a pair of leads that you shouldnt.

Just make sure that you know what the joint looked like before you stared, this way you wont wonder if you bridged somthing by mistake.

The whole precess should take about 30-45 minutes.

well resoldering isn't that tough you can get the guids almost anywhere and it is good to be able to do it yourself if you have plans on getting some serious hp out of your car! cause you will have to add and take off of your ecu unless you go with a totally different one for like 3000g's

The main problem seems to be where the plug's pins are soldered to the circuit board. Start there.
