Unhappy It could be worst right??? -pics inside

Well this is my new 90 GTU. I had it for about a month or so now. Let my friend drive it this sunday and one thing lead to another and the next thing I kno where against a wall in a ditch. damn. well im pretty sure im not letting the car go so now i need to get some money together for some repairs. I went to a body shop today and his bodyman doesnt think that he can repair it w/o replacing the whole inner and outer panel. well that quote came out to $2000+ unpainted. Im in Sacramento CA so if anyone knows a good body shop around that isnt gonna take all my money let me kno. and also i think i bent a control arm or something. It feels like the wheel skips sometimes and it kinda looks a little twisted in but I cant reall tell cause the bodys throwin my eyes off. anyways here it is. let me kno if have have shop info or parts. if the pics are big sorry. i gots to go to work.

I hate to say this but I think any shop will charge more than that car's worth to repair that damage. (Not intended as an insult- I have the same machine in a different color)

well to fix that im gessing will cost allot no matter where u go to get it done. then painting it wil be just as much seeing as how you have to repaint basicly the entire car. tough break. i agree w/ 90WhiteVrt your friend schould at least help pay for it.

I am 99% sure that wheel is REALLY bent in. Take a pic from behind the car, and get down to see under the bumper. A straight view from the back, and I garuntee you'll see what I can see from the side...

Unless you're door is all screwed too, it is definitely bent in, massively.

Edit: Just so there are no confused thoughts..the wheel itself is FINE. It's you're suspension that is SCREWED.

Hey If you love the car as much as I love mine, just get the car fix to get it running. Then save up and take one step at a time. This could be a good opportunity to change the color of the car to your liking or maybe add a body kit if you're in to that.
Whatever you do bro good luck and I hope to see the end result when you finish your car. If you decide to keep it.

imho, that right there would be easy to fix. theres nothing in there except dead space. get sme bondo, red paint, supplies, and a friggin stud welder and hammer that bitch out and bondo it smooth. the hardest part willbe the wheel well.

been there, tried that....... there really isnt "dead space" there, behind all of the plactics and carpet back there is a bunch of bracing, basically a second wall, keeping you from getting to the outer wall, so no hammering..(at least in quite a few places, i was able to get to a few)..... and all of the bondo it would take to do it that way would be rediculous! plus, there are quite a few body lines/curves right there, that only an experienced body man could get it to look semi-descent..imo........

^I'm with him on this one. I've had a couple of hits about that hard, and in the same place. Shops quoted me at $1500-$2500. A hours here and there, and the car started to take shape again. After about a week, you couldn't really tell it had been into a wall, besides the lack of paint. Re-quoted at $250 for bondo and paint.

Take it from a guy who just spent 3 months of doing body work on his 7. That is pretty serious you are 10x better off parting it out making a little money back then looking for another one. The car as unfortunate as it is... is not worth saving at this point especially knowing you have suspension issues as well. I mean it is really up to you but for the money it really doesnt make sense.

The classic reply.

1. Make the bastard who wrecked it pay for it. Then donkey punch him.
2. Pick up a 86 SE (lightweight yo!) with a blown engine.
3. Swap everything from the S5 into it.
4. Sell the parts from the 86 SE and make some money for some extras.

I'm really sorry to hear about this man. My first 7 was rear-ended and totaled four days after I bought it.

I know how hard it is when a friend does something like this but it was his fault. If he isn't going to fix his mistakes then he shouldn't be a friend of yours.

And my friend's wonder why I won't let them drive my car.

If your friend didn't offer to pay for the damage right after it happened he isn't your friend anymore. How much did you pay for your car, your friend owes you that much. If you can manage to sell your wreck you owe your friend back as much as it sells for.

He did X amount of damage to you and he owes you X amount of money...

by the way man that is fixable and if it were my car I would fix it. I a couple of friends of mine taught me how to do body work man. They killed me bro I used no machines for months until they thought I was ready. Very tough work but fun as hell. They cut the back of a 2000 honda civic that was in the same shape and rebuilt that bitch. It was a four door people said it couldn't be done. But they did it. You see the car now and would never know.

The point isn't if it can be fixed, it's more of if it should, and short of extreme boredom, or stupidity, there's not much other reason to do so, you can find rx7's with a straight body cheap enough that it's not even worth the effort of beating it straight with a hammer and calling it good enough.

i used to work at a body shop and by those pictures, its def not worth it to fix it, you will have more problems than you can imagine if you do fix it (frame damage, suspension damage ect) that can never be fixed 100 percent.... and the amount of labor involved in replacing that quarter panel alone will total out the car.... like everybody says just part it out and get another car, sorry for your loss
