could this be a future elect. prob?

**1988 GXL (N/A)**

i was driving home from auto zone today and decided to open it up alittle, nothing too hard, just around 5k, but as the RPMs were going up i noticed my volt meter jump from 12 (which is where i hope it should normaly be, but i havn't noticed untill now) to 16 (red zone)! wtf?! THEN it just kinda bounced around a little then back down to 12...

it did this a few times, then by that time i was home, now im praying its not a big electrical problem (electronics are really not my thing)

* also as a side note, i noticed my volt meter will flintch just a little bit whenever i use something electronic (ex. Windows, headlights, brakelights, etc) BUT not when i switch between Normal and Sport mode (the suspension control on the center console). This doesn't worry me as much as the previous problem, but i figured i'd throw it in.

thanks for all the help guys

with the engine running, the voltage should be between 13.5 volts and 14.4 volts.

It should never exceed 15 volts, and should never be under 12.5 volts.

Sounds like the alt is failing.

and pretty ******* rude, to bump in less than 15 minutes. Furthermore bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section. Your bump has been deleted

Make sure the connections from the alternator to the battery are good. The regulator needs a good circuit to the battery or it will work itself to death.
