I am about to change the coolant in my '87 non-turbo. Anything to watch for or any tips?

Make sure you pull the 14mm plug for the block also, when draining. Down there at the left engine mount bracket...

make sure you get ALL fo the air out of the system when filling it!! make sure there is no oil in the coolant (im sure you knew that one)... make sure the car hasnt been driven for at least 1 hour before changing!! pretty basic stuff..... good luck

check the rubber seal on the bottom of the fill cap for cracks. unless it looks near-perfect get a new cap. flush the system before refilling. you can flush with a water hose, but when you fill mix coolant 5050 with distilled water. fill it all the way up, then start and run, and keep filling until it overflows. then shut it off and put the cap on.

Any special technique to ensure the air is removed while re-installing the coolant?

yes...like i said up there ^^^ run the engine a bit while topping it off. also, on your NA, there is a air release screw on the top left of the radiator where the platic hose nipple sticks up take it out and fill from the cap until it spills out of this hole.

ps, the system has a vacuum overflow tank, so if you get a little air in it it will just escape anyway. dont worry too overly much about it.
