yeah i kinda did the same thing . but i just made a cold box around the filter and put some weather stripping around the box to seal against the hood. then took a 3 inch hole saw and made a hole in the fender an put a 90 degree pipe from my brother in laws old intake off his civic in the fender . so it still pulls cold air in to the cold box but with out the problem of getting the filter wet when driving in the rain. i mean it would take alot of water to get into the motor . you would have to be doing some serious plowing thur water to get to that point . but i pretty sure we all have enough common sense not to ,atleast i hope so... i'll take pic's of my set up later to day if it warms up . cause its like 20 degrees in austin ,tx right now and that freaking cold for down here

You never know...Ever see those news reports of the idiots who thought they were just driving through a puddle, only to be 3 feet deep in water? Sometimes puddles are deeper then they appear. For the few dollars and basically zero effort to fit a bypass, why not?

IMO it looks like the filter is the one that needs the protection. now before you say well that guy is an idiot (i know) what this person did is pretty much the same.. only difference is the location (and maybe height?) but from one of his pics i can clearly see the ground, and its not very far from the filter.

to me this setup would like i said before: last longer, give just as much if not more hp gains, and be a more reliable/constant source of airflow. Im not saying that putting a filter 6" away from the floor is the wrong way to do it... but theres a reason most professionaly made/tuned cars dont have that feature.
