coolant loss
coolant loss
i searched and couldnt find anything. i was driving home and friend was behind me and he said he saw a whole bunch of liquid shoot out from under my car. turns out it was coolant. filled the radiator and the reservoir, im still leaking coolant and my radiator looks full but its takin coolant from the reservoir. i looked under the car and im dripping coolant from the piece of metal behind the oil pan, towards the middle of the car; coolant is dripping from there. i checked the hoses and they seem ok, and again the radiator is full....i dont know whats up. You guys have any ideas?
Sounds like you have a pinhole or a crack that leaks only at high pressure. When the cooling system gets hot and builds up pressure, the coolant will shoot out the small hole. When everything cools off, air doesn't come in the hole, instead the system sucks coolant from the reservoir. The drips you found might just be where the coolant is collecting after it has been sprayed from the leak. Get the car to the point of leaking, and try to find the actual source. Something similar happened to me recently, but the leak was easy to find. I was lifting the seven with the jack under the front cross-member. The jack slipped, and the entire weight of the front of the car came down and was held in place by the radiator. The only apparent damage was a dent in the bottom of the rad, but when I drove it, it would drink coolant, and the underside was wet with the stuff. Changed the radiator, and problem was solved. Thank goodness for parts cars. (and thank Google for their new spell checker in the browser tool bar!)

Make sure that's where the leak actually is, not just where you see the coolant. By that I mean the coolant may be leaking from a hose and running down the side of the engine, or some other part, and dripping where you see it.
If it actually is leaking near the rear of the engine, it may be a heater hose or even the heater core. There are 2 heater hoses that attach to the firewall--one on either side of the engine. These hoses are smaller diameter than the main coolant hoses attached to the radiator and engine.

No way to tell until you isolate the source of the leak. Could be a hose failure, a loose hose clamp, a leaking engine gasket, a bad heater core, and so on. Pinpoint the source of the leak and you will know.
ok...i think i found where the leak is coming from, it only happens above 4500 rpms and it seems to be coming from this part i circled in the pic (sorry about the size), what is this part and what does it do? i rev the car up to 5000 and coolant comes out of there.

I can't view your pic so I'm answering in the dark.
But, if it is the BAC valve, there is a coolant line that is attached to the side of the BAC. The line consists of a metal pipe attached to the side of the BAC with hoses attached at each end of the pipe. This is just a pass-through line and it has no purpose for the BAC. You may need to replace the part, probably one of the hoses, that is leaking. But first, check to make sure the hose clamps are tight.
See the attachment. Is this what you're referring to?

thats what i thought, but thats where i saw the coolant coming from....maybe its coming from underneath or something, is there anyway that coolant could be spaying from underneath that or something?
If it is definitely coming from that area of the engine compartment, check the heater that attaches to a pipe on the engine directly below the area you circled on the pic. That would be my guess for the source of the leak. Make sure the clamp is tight and if the clamp is tight, there may be a leak in the hose.
