Coolant Leak and Idle Issues

Hey everyone,

I just got a replacement AFM for my 91 RX7 NA today, and finally got it to run and hold an idle.

The problems I am having however, is coolant that is leaking where the lower radiator hose attaches to the engine as you can see in the picture and video below. Has anyone had this issue, and if so, how did you fix it?

Picture of area leaking coolant:

My other issue is the car holds an idle at 3000 rpm, kind of like the AWS not disengaging. I only ran the car for about 5-10 minutes, and even pressed the accelerator pedal a few times, but the car remained at 3000-3500 RPM.

One other thing I noticed, is it sounded from the exhaust that the car is backfiring. You can hear what I am talking about in the second video

If you don't see both videos, here's a link to the album: http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/abcheng/rx7/

for coolant leek you could get a hose clamp that you tighten up with a screw driver or get bars stop leek its hard to tell where it is leeking from in he video, but thats what it looke like in the picture

when you tap the thottle does it idle normal mine does that, check your throttle cable and see if is to tight, and check and see if your throttle body retracts completley. that happend on my gtu but it went straight to 9k and blew but still a possabiltiy

timing video would not play, bu check your spark plugs, plug wires, coils and see how the spark, check your crank angle sensor for timing adjustmant

yes i know i cant spell, but owell let us know what you find out

I'm pretty sure it's not leaking from the hose. If you look at the picture, the metal part that the hose attaches to circled in black is where it's leaking from.

If I tap the throttle, the idle doesn't drop. It still stays at ~ 3000rpm. How would I check and see if the throttle body retracts completely?

to check throttle body push it with your hand and see if it sticks or dosent close
is your throttle cable to tight, if it is it will not retract completly

for coolant it could be your water pump when the go bad they leek generaly from the bottom but i cant see where it leeks so just saying, try bars stop leek its like 10 bucks you can get it almost any where with car parts i think wal mart may have it

and did you have your intake duct off

So actually, I was wrong about the part in the picture. That parts seems to be the ACV, and from looking at the service manual, the steam coming out apparently is exhaust gas.

Does this sound right? If so, I would need to pick up a new check valve and gasket ?

Also, with the ACV not functioning properly, wouldn't that also explain the abnormal exhaust noise, and a possible reason why the car stays at 3000 RPM ?

I have added some more pictures in my photobucket album. In the pictures, it also seems like the water pump is leaking. Please correct me if I am wrong.

This is the 2nd generation board which covers 1986 to 1991 RX7s. Your car is a 3rd generation RX7, therefore you are on the wrong board, Egan.

pretty sure you do need the acv. since it does control the secondary actuators.
