Convince Me To Remove My P/S

Ok, I want to AutoX, drive my car around town, and race it sometimes. Convince me to or not to remove my p/s. It and the alternator are all I have left on the belt system, and I can't remove the alternator!!!

Take it out!!!

Less weight, AND you can feel the road better. Don't let any wussies tell you it makes it harder to turn... I'm a small person and I had no problems driving supergoat's non-p/s'd FC when he still had it.

Yank dat shiaznit!

that good?
you forgot you're still running a water pump... unless you went electric, which IS possible, despite what some of these guys say.

No, not at all what I was saying.
no effect whatsoever.
You said in your original post you are only running p/s and a alternator right now.
I was just saying you left out water pump, unless you have an electric pump (which would be cool... but you'll get knocked on for it :s)

No he is saying that you could possibly run an electric water pump and remove the tension from the now, pully driven, water pump. I suggest getting a manual rack. I drove with the disabled PS for about a month then switched to a manual rack and it was deffinitely better. For the extra $100, it will be easier to steer, and alot cleaner in the engine bay. And any half assed mechanic could swap it out.

Would you guys please wait a second after you post so I can squeeze my 2 cents in!

I know you guys seem to knock everying thats electric, but im new, so thats im excuse

what about electric power steering, i know it exsists, but not sure for our car,

Pro's --
Ligher
Only needs power when steering
its electric, and if its setup anything like normal powersteering, you could just cut the power to it when racing to keep alt from stealing hp
Cons --
Dont know if they make it for RX7's althouh mazda does own a portion or a complete electric powersteering rights
Its got to be expensive

One question
Is it mechanicly bad to drive on disabled power steering

Yeah, they do knock anything electric. Its best to keep mods like that to yourself.

Disabled how? If you just remove the belt, the pressure in the sides of the rack can not equalize, and it will be a little bad for the rack, not too mention harder to steer.
If you completely remove the pump and plumb the hoses per above link, it is fine.
Sean

Sorry Samps, I always have the same problem. Lately I've just been typing shorter responses in order to get a word in.

You've hit the nail on the head, big $$$! AFAIK, there's no such thing as aftermarket electric PS, and currently it's only available on expensive, late-model European cars. I've read excellent reports on it's performance, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it...

The pumps are available in any performance catalog, like Jegs, Summit, Ect...
That's Just the pump though... requires a lot of other work, it's not a kit by any means.
