remove those fasteners again, blast them and paint them, or have them coated

Pretty scary, huh? I decided to buy the car due to the freshly rebuilt engine, new clutch and full Racing Beat exhaust system. Unfortunately I thought the top replacement was a $600 to $900 additional investment. The seats are shot too but at least I have affordable options on covers if I decide to hold off on having them reupholstered. If I can find a shop to do the top and seats for a good price, I'll get it all done at one time.

This was the place we found to have the best price on Robbins tops, they also have a canvas. We installed the vinyl top and a new headliner

On Robbins website there is a tab for installers, this will give you a list in your area. We had ours installed for $500 by an authorized Robbins installer, which means we get the complete 5 year warranty

My seals were in fine shape and so was the adjustment on the cables/straps. My top was in similar shape to the tattered top shown above, except my Targa failed in the front. Thus, while the back part flapped, the targa part inflated. Pretty sad sight.
I left my car in the garage over a couple of weekends working carefully. I didn't break any trim. Most of my delays were to determine the correct adhesive, source the adhesive and then find it locally. The list was quite a bit of work to compile, so it is listed in the archive. I am quite happy with the results and am coming up on 4 years on my top. It still looks great.
I had similar 1200-1500 estimates by shops that had never done an RX7 before. I think they didn't really want to do it. Screw that. Find a way to replace it yourself if you are handy and brave.
Good Luck!

I went through a shop called Back in Time Auto Upholstery in Mount Holly, NJ. They ordered the top through their supplier. It is a genuine Robbins canvas with rain guards and new hoses. He would only honor the warranty if he purchased it through his supplier.
I called tons of places in the area, even as far out as Lancaster, PA. They were close to other prices I received and came recommended from other shops in the area.
