Constantly Blowing Main Fuse

ok did a quick search but didnt see anything...........

so my car has been flooding lately and the battery went dead this morning, from trying to start and i think it was **** anyways.......... its an 88 turbo 2, soooo i try to jumpstart the car and when i connect the starter cables to the rx battery it blows the main 80 fuse........ so i go out buy another one and try again........ same thing......
i decide to go and buy an new battery and another fuse, put in the fuse and once i put on the terminals on the new battery , it instantly blows the main fuse again.!!! what is going on here???

you have a short somewhere fuse are meant to protect from shorts and over amperage. im guessing somewhere from your battery to the main fuse box check your wiring harness

yep, it's a short. I'm pretty sure it's AFTER the fuse somewhere or it wouldn't pop the fuse.

If this happened when you hooked up the jumper cables, you probably hooked up the jumper cables backwards and have a burnt wire. If it is just happening since you put the new battery in, you have the battery in backwards.

Remember, the Neg post is the one nearest to the headlight and has the Black wire with the Yellow stripe on it. Positive is the one nearest to the shock tower and fuse box.

yeah now that i think of it you may have burnt a wire. i burnt up my starter wire once and every time i tried to start my car it would just click out. i would have to remove the positive terminal and put it back for anything to turn on. then once i tried starting it again i would lose all poser to everything instantly. this was a while back when i didn't know to much and i used an aluminum spiral wound cable. i quickly realized that aluminum can't handle as much amperage per gauge as copper. try replacing the cable from your positive to your main fuse. and of course use same gauge or one bigger copper

thanks guys, i'll check it out after i get home from work....... i'm pretty sure i didnt hook it up backwards...... if i did then i'll definately feel like an idiot! so if i did hook it up backwards and burnt the wire then i'll switch it out and see whats up.... i would think if it burnt the wire out and blew the fuse, it wouldnt blow the fuse again after replacing with a new fuse though would it? it would just not have any power, right?

Do you have the Jumper wires ON correctly?..then Did you Connect the Wires Improperly?...the Negative has a STRIPE on it!

get a Piece of RED Tape..When you get to the Car..PUT IT ON THE POSITIVE..that way Through Hell or Highwater,a Dyslexic Monkey can put the Cables on!..(This is one of the Things that I have done, because I hate that Stripe!..it makes me think Twice, about which is which!)..Oh the Negative Terminal is always a Bit Smaller than the Positive Terminal on the Battery,so If you are having a hard time getting the cables to FIT correctly, then Double check the Polarity!

make sure your batery terminals match up to the painted jumper cables.
BLACK to - / RED to +

put new battery terminals on your wires so this doesn't happen again. make sure and buy red and black terminals. it's a costly mistake if it happens again so i would spend an extra 5 dollars and prevent it from happening again... aftermarket one's tend to work better anyways as far as putting on and taking off the terminals, more amps can also travel through them.
Good Luck!

Did you get it to work? And quick question to you specifically, when you pulled the 80 amp main fuse, was it easy to pull out? I've just blown mine and when I tried to pull it out, it wouldn't. It shattered into a million pieces, and the connections don't want to come out of the fuse box. I was starting to wonder if maybe it wasn't meant to come out at all!

PM sent to SAAVEDRO88..the 80 amp fuse is held in by two 10 mm Bolts/nuts Whatever,On Each side of the Engine bay Fuse Block..so it Doesn't Accidentally Pop out!..
