Connected Battery Wrong

I had to drop in a battery from a mustang of course while putting it in I forgot the terminals were on different sides initally and connected it, a few big sparks and disconnected it in fright I killed the wiring or fuses.

I connected it properly and herd the belts (s5) and such move, turned over fine, then I noticed white smoke coming near the oil filter area couldn't really see exactly, looked like there was wires there, as the car idled the smoke came up more and more and then just went away, I've had no electrical issues or nothing since.

So what was that white smoke???

Id have a good look where you saw the smoke, the wires will probably be shagged and need replacing, it will run fine, but could break pretty easy, plus if you ever go through any water and the wires are bare your gonna have some problems

Maybe the Insulation off of the Ground Wire??.There is a Ground wire in that Area.it is located on the Harness, and it Attaches to a Bolt that goes through the Starter/Transmission and the rear of the engine.Roughly in that location, which is just under the Oil filter...IF you are having a hard Time distinguishing NEG from Positive(I think you know now,but.!)..get a Piece of RED tape and wrap a couple turns on the Positive wire..that is the EASIEST way to Never do it Again!

hmm... when you connected it backwards, is should have blown your 80 am main fuse..... like instantly ...

hmmm . . somethings wrong here. Maybe you had it correct the first time, and backwards the second time... but I don't think so ... I donno sorry.

Check your main fuse.

Is your main fuse still a fuse? Or has it been blown and had the remnance twisted together?

A reversed battery has ALWAYS popped the main in my experience. If the fuse didn't blow I don't know what to say........if it didn't blow because its been twisted together then you may have shorted somethign else out.

If its running fine though just visually check all the wiring in the area you saw the smoke from and wrap anything thats exposed or has melted insulation.

People have blown their ECU doing this same thing. Idk if they also blew their main fuse, but this kind of thing is fairly unpredictable.

I had my dad come and look he said it looked like some leaking oil or something, would brake fluid burn whiteish? I know the brake fluid is leaking sometimes alot too but I don't see the smoke anymore, it happened when I turned on the car when I turned it off the smoke stopped. I'll check the fuse's and wires later.

Boiling point ranges of brake fluid from Wikipedia:
Dry boiling point Wet boiling point
DOT 3 205°C (401°F) 140°C (284°F)
DOT 4 230°C (446°F) 155°C (311°F)
DOT 5 260°C (500°F) 180°C (356°F)
DOT 5.1 270°C (518°F) 191°C (375°F)

It'd have to get pretty hot to evaporate, and forget burning.
