Confusion about ecu codes
Hi sorry to trouble people about this 'ere problem, I have a sick '91 turbo II (UK spec), the car is missing very badly at any thing from 3K to 6K when accerlating hard, and now won't start, it is trying to start but only half firing if that makes any sense. Before the car would sometimes start some times not, no real pattern, it would be just a case of waiting, some times 5 mins other times 20 mins then start first time. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the spark side which appears in order. I have searched for details on the ECU codes but can not find any reference to the engine check light that should be flashing. Are UK models different? Where is the check light suppose to be, on the dase or in the clock console? I have been able to get a single repeating flash of about one second from the larger green plug next to the single pin green diag connection (when i ground it) does this point to a 1 code or 10. Any help would be great

I'm not sure if UK cars are different but go to www.fc3s.org and in the menu on the LHS of the window click on "How-To's", then "Manuals". You'll see there a procedure there for checking the 89-91 ECU error codes, and also for downloading the Factory Service Manual which has the same info in it. Get this, it's your RX-7 bible!

Thanks for the reply, but this is not quite the info I need, I have the manual already but although it does list the Engine check light it doesn't say where it is. Plus a code is alot easier than checking a whole load of different voltages at a load of different conditions. The question still is how to get the codes without a diag unit?

On a USA vehicle, the check engine light is the rightmost light in the bottom row of warning lights on the clock console. Also, if you turn the ignition on without starting the car, all your warning lights should light, both on the instrument cluster and the clock console. Look for the one that has a little engine outline on it, with the word "check" underneath it. Sorry, have never seen a UK RX-7, so I'm just trying to help you find it. Good luck!

Thank you Irv. This is very useful as I can stop looking and wasting time on it. I think I will have to make my own light, just hope that the diagnostic pin works in the same way. The leading plugs look a bit cruded up so will change thoses but I am really cluching at straws now

Your car has no check engine light????
Do this:
turn the key on so the radio and stuff turn on and quickly look at the idiot-light cluster...one of these should be a check engine light. There's a bunch of them and they should all light up (for a test) when you turn the key on.

Sorry to bring this old post out.
But it seems that there are at least three different idiot lights for the FC. I have three 7's now and all three are different from each other.
Two of them don't have check engine lights, both happen to be 86 base models. The other is an 89 and it has one.
So,
s4=no
s5=yes
The only way to check codes is to make a code checker from two leds.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I hate using the leds but what else can you do?

are you kidding? wire the LEDS to your dash or other prefered location from the check plug in the engine bay, and you'll get real-time check codes as you're driving in your S4, MUCH better than a damn check light....

I think you're thinking of the initial set coupler, that's a different plug...I haven't had a problem with the setup since I installed it 6 months ago or so...boost sensor code going off every time I dog it is driving me batsh*t, though :0
