you can find some cone filter intakes from the following companies:

http://www.rx7.com
http://www.corksport.com

i'm using the Bonez intake from RX7.com. (1991 S5)

Buy a cone filter with a 2.5" ID neck and clamp it straight on. No adaptor or pipe needed.

Isn't it worse to just run a cone filter in the open engine bay because it will just suck in warm engine bay air? I say leave it stock or build a cold air intake.

Not necessarily worse, you just loose much of the benefit. If you install a pod filter, a heat shield and outside air supply should be part of the install.

it really is worse; you need a 4" filter to make it suck as much air. If you don't shield it, you just suck hot air. so, unless you make it suck cool/cold air, you're actually worse off.

Its still less restrictive than the stock airbox.

If you leave the stock plastic air snorkle on at least you are directing some cold air to the filter at speed!

This comment makes no sense and is completely wrong.

An unshielded pod filter will still be a small improvement over the stock airbox, but not as much as if it were taking in outside air instead of engine bay air.

Actually you're not. Unless it's connected to the stock airbox or somehow sealed to a custom one, the stock duct is totally useless.

I'm going to have to second you on that one. That statement makes no sense whatsoever once you think about it. If the opening to the AFM is only 2.5" then why do you need a 4" intake? To quote Spock, that is highly illogical.
